I think Carl and T were like the ghosts of Contracts Past and Contracts Future. They came to give wisdom, remind us how it used to be, and show how it could be, if DALPA fails to change their ways.

Or like (the chick) Starbuck in BSG season 4 - (SPOILER ALERT) there to show the correct way. Then, job finished, suddenly gone. Like an angel. A Tennessee angel, or a Greenskeeper angel. I think that's what happened here.

No, it's more like the Mile High club for taking a dump. Not a member. :D

Not from DALPA. They're too busy celebrating on our dime.

PG,

I will consider it because there are things I was not happy about and while I voted and posted and wrote to my reps maybe I need to do more. Thanks for the thoughts.

Please note the bolded first 5 words.

Actually, that is not correct. The way the federal law reads is the first $50,000 of employer coverage is at no cost to the employee. After $50,000 coverage the company is required to report as income the cost of the additional coverage (in other words if you elect $500,000 of coverage the company is required to report the cost of the additional $450,000 of coverage as income). On my Dec 31, 2011 pay statement it showed $1200 of income for the additional coverage which is actually a fair price given that the coverage does not require a physical. As a point of note I recently priced out a new 10 year term policy (I am 55) and it would cost $75/month so you can get it a little cheaper (if you have excellent health and you're willing to go through the full application process with a physical). Also, some of this coverage can be maintained after retirement as a decreasing term policy.

They used to just dead head the 30/7 pilot on one or two legs to cure the problem, but I'm not sure if that works now with some of our newer rules. As an MD-88B I once DH to CAE to fly one leg back to ATL. When the aircraft came in, I went up to the cockpit to make my nest. The FO said "Are you deadheading?" I said, "No you are." Scheduling hadn't told him he was a 30/7. He DH to ATL and then continued his rotation. Again, not sure if we can do that now.

Actually, a 30/7 gave me one of my few good deals ever from scheduling (this is a few years ago). I accepted an inverse assignment on a Sunday that was one leg LAX-FLL and DH home. I flew the leg, went to the hotel to catch some sleep (5 hours), deviated from DH to JS home (I'm a commuter), so about 20 hours of pay for less than 24 hours of work, and then had a 30/7 violation on my 4 day later in the week, deviated from DH (again direct home) 1 day early. Got around 35 hours of pay in one week - only GS I've ever had.

Well, I've finally found a couple of references. With this new PWA, I've been contemplating bidding reserve (really junior reserve) on the 330 if I can hold it some time in the next year but don't want to go to Africa all the time. Since I'm a SEA guy and would not bid the 330 anywhere else, I wonder how often SEA reserves are called on to cover out of base Africa trips. I guess I could avoid it by not getting the theater qual.:) That is unless I got it on a TOE. DOH! Anyway, I'm just what if'n right now.

The best thing about bidding it is I might get to fly with Ferd!

Rev up the liver Denny!:D
