"The only way they can assign you something that starts immediately after your rest is if you were notified of that prior to entering said rest. If you do not have such notification, then the earliest they can give you an assignment would be five hours after rest ends if the assignment was placed on your line prior nine hours before rest ends or 10 hours for SC/12 hours for a rotation if placed after the nine hour point. They can call you all they want during rest and you have absolutely no obligation to answer the phone. Your acknowledgement of an assignment would be three hours before report or two hours before a SC start." You will note that nowhere does it say you have to check your schedule during the 24 hr of rest, but you could be on the hook as early as 5 hr following the rest.

But you can't be "on the hook" at the end of the rest (or even 5 hours later) if they want you to be, yet also be at rest during that same 5 hours if they want you to be, before knowing what they want you to be.
The 5 hour/3 hour thing is fine and legal in and of itself, but you can't look back retroactively at that time as a 5 hour continuation of your rest just to pad your max duty day for scheduling's convenience. So by that logic, they can do the 5 hour thing all they want, but you would then have an 11 hour duty day max to be in compliance with the FAR's.

I have a question about the 24 hr rest, what if in the 23rd hr you have a beer?

What do you mean? You can have beer on rest as long as it's outside of 8 hours before reporting for duty.

Problem is the booking codes used. Call or email pass benefit services. You will see issues as well when you buy a BE seat on a international flight and they want to charge bag fees for anything over 50 lbs.

My hiring achieved what ALPA would have sought via it's Merger and Fragmentation Policy back in the day that a Delta MEC member handed me my first copy of Flying the Line nearly fifteen years ago (while working on the Bid Restricted SO SLOA, to get jobs for Delta pilots, btw)
For the rest of you, like 1234; the logic makes sense on a short term basis. Of course if the only sandwich shop in the terminal doubles its prices it will make a profit. The long term picture is that the City will lease three other sandwich shops space in the terminal and they will enter the market for Bologna on Wheat ... eventually driving down profits for "sandwich capacity reductions is our leverage." Worse, since the new entrants have no legacy costs their will have a cost advantage on the "capacity reductions are our leverage" Bologna vendor. As stated clearly by Bastian and Anderson, our continued shrinkage is driving up unit costs. This fact makes us less competitive long term. Sailing always gets angry when someone contrasts the growth at other airlines with what appears to be a slow liquidation of what Delta Air Lines was. It is imagined "as long as Sailing got his," the rest of us should literally be happy to clean his garbage from the flight deck until we retire two years after he does.

Another good point. You can only shrink to a point. DAL's plethora of different game jets allows them to shrink ASM's without sacrificing network coverage. This too works to a point. After that point the network must shrink ; CVG MEM.
And, for what it's worth, I am not lemming of blindly following the one in front of me, but I will bet on those that have vs the others. I think I am done with this board. Thanks for the entertainment. Just don't care to read the constant negativity. Life is to short. Good luck to us all. 1234 |

I think what he means is what if you were never notified of the SC before going into 24hr rest, are assigned SC starting 5 hrs after your rest, but you had a beer in the last hour of your rest. From what UncleSam and Gloopy posted earlier it sounds like that should not happen because for you to get SC so soon after your rest you would have had to been notified of that SC prior to going into rest. Maybe I'm reading too much into the question.
Typically, they would assign the rest following the trip and then assign the SC sometime during the rest. IF they assign the SC prior to 9 hr before the rest ends, then that SC can start as early as 3 hr after the rest, or looking at it another way, you could report as early as 5 hr following the rest. That is exactly the same as any assignment following an X-day. IF CS doesn't get around to assigning it before the 9 hr mark, then it can not start earlier than 10 hr after the rest, or a trip report 12 hr following the rest. Are you still with me? One of the mistakes that CS makes in these cases is they will sometimes realize after you have checked your schedule following the trip, that they want you on 24 rest. They will then try to ADD the other 15 hrs to your 9 hour break while you are on the 9 hour break. This is a no no. You have to call them on this. Again, all this is confusing because you start the rest at an odd time which can make you elligible for a trip assignment or SC immediately following the rest. So, wrt the beer at hour 23, you know that if CS has called you during the rest, that you may have an assignment. It is your responsibility to find out what that assignment is at some point. IF you choose to wait until after the rest ends to check your schedule, you still know that you could be assigned something inside of 12 hours if they tried to contact you prior to the 9 hr mark.:) |
