Why AMR? Well, where do I start? 1. Severely cripple the Oneworld alliance. 2. Get AMR's Latin America route structure. 3. Get their almost brand new JFK terminal. 4. Get their DFW operation. Those are just 4 off the top of my head.

Jet Blue? Not so much. The only reason to acquire them is to get rid of a competitor. Delta could just get more 320's and do exactly what JB is doing now. Cannot do that with AMR.

Hey FTB.

our network guys say nobody has ORD (ual, amr, swa) DEN (ual, f9, swa) or LAX (everyone).

I know they're competitive, but what do you think they'd rather have? I mean NYC is competitive too.

IMHO, AA, DAL means:

  • Lots of network overlap (which we will be told does not really exist)
  • Too Many Hubs (SFO, SJO, MEM, CVG, RDU ... and to some extent JFK and LAX realignment)
  • Delta pilots are near (or at, depending on who you ask) industry pay scales, meaning:
  • There is not a pile of money to buy labor peace while entering another decade of stagnation and potentially massive furloughs
  • Whatever money there is, on a percentage basis, will do more for the group that is acquired
  • Recovering AA is ALPA's advent event.

That's the thing, if we got AA's JFK operation, how in the world is the DOJ/DOT not going to go after our new found strong position in LGA? Hell, they went after us demanding for divestitures just because of what we have now, imagine a significant increase in JFK and LGA at the same time?

I didn't see anything in this last debacle that makes me think we can have both.

If AMR is split up with most going to usair, how do you split up the pilot group?

This is where Gloopy comes in with "give the lga slots to an ace dealing..." IDK, he says it better than me.

I guess it depends on how much of their fragmentation language survives and how much each gets.

Actually, picture this little gem (in my best mad movie director pose):

AMR's LGA goes to UsAir, which is called American Airlines. So no change there per se except Dash 8s in AA paint.

AMR's JFK goes to Delta with a percentage of AMR pilots.

DOT says oh but, yeah, SWA will get a significant number of slots out of LGA... if you want JFK. Unless you want it all to go to B6.

Do we get DCA back from USAir? LaHood says um... no. But do you want JFK and your small presence in LGA or not?

Oh and SWA gets UsAir's old terminal.

lahood: Ya'll have fun and get some Tums? :D

true that. does seem like the vultures (which includes us) our circling and it's not because there's something dead. They just want to rip it apart. And in the end it's probably UsAir that disappears from airline history.

and it sounds like stuff is moving kind of fast.

remember when Hawaiian was all that we thought would happen?
