I don't know if it's the schedulers or the categories, but I sure can't complain about the short calls for the SEA A330 captains for Aug or Sep. We have two departures a day and three captains on short call. Every time I check all the short call pilots have at least 6 days of availability - none of this 1 day of availability stuff.

I'd still much rather be on a regular line.

Under NWA the 744 held 400+ pax. Have we shrunk them twice?

I originally typed 403 because that was the seat count then. I checked around, and with the economy comfort mod it dropped it to 393.

Then the lie flat suite mod dropped it another 20 seats. I guess they make up for it with the premiums? (super premiums? :D )

That's right! Economy Comfort would've dropped it.

In addition to those SC days, they could put you on SC a few more per month, up to 6 total. I haven't had to sit reserve under the PBS system, but what do you guys think about going back to that 'first day on call is always SC' type system?

Or perhaps being able to bid all your SC days, just like bidding X days?

SC on day one for a commuter really stinks because you then have to commute in on your day off. At my previous job they couldn't give you a SC assignment prior to noon on your first day so that you did not have to commute on a day off. I think that would be good. An early SC on your first day of availability is not fun.

SC assignments in SLC on the 320 have been very predictable since the new system was implemented. Almost always 4 SC assignments and 95% of the time they go to those who have the most days of availability. Been getting 3-4 SC assignemnts per month through the summer and have only been called out on 1 the last 3 months.

This deal of putting a ton on SC started this summer about a week prior the big vote. It was always about 7-8 guys on SC and then one day it was 14-18. No bad WX (ATL88B). I called ALPA. At first they didn't believe me. Look into and was told can and it cuts down on Green Slips ( this is why they love the 2 day and 1 day SC. Next month the target SC is 14. Changed overnight and was told it was a company saving on Green Slips. All ALPA can say its legal.

I think that is the point... legal does not always mean ethical or moral. Bankruptcy is one of the few things originally (and intentionally) given to Congress to make laws on. Corporations have used their influence to now be allowed to "restructure." Also known as a business tool to screw your employees and creditors. Think about it... you have a private contract and one side uses the government to break that contract. Nothing ethical or moral about that!
