When MIL LV is up they can bid anywhere that their seniority can hold. It really woudn't work out too well for MIL guys and gals if their MIL commitment ended and they were out on the street for 3-4 years waiting for the company to hire.

The good thing about this is that unlike furloughs who are all very closely spaced in seniority and can only return during active hiring MIL LV personnel are a little more spread out and will slowly trickle in at various seniority levels and do not normally return in big groups coincident with hiring.

Many if not most pilots on long term Mil leave are there on a voluntary basis. They are staying on active duty in order to get their 20 years in for government retirement. At that point they can return to Delta and Delta is required to figure out a assumed earnings number for pay while they were gone and reimburse them all retirement money they missed at Delta and pay interest on that amount. Its a pretty good deal if you can work the timing. You come back to Delta perhaps now a Captain with a full military retirement and medical you are drawing on at the same time plus full reimbursement for any Delta retirement you missed. Delta has been very generous in not enforcing the 5 year rule on mil leave to allow this to happen. Other employers have enforced the rule.

Sorry for a drift here guys, but this has been buggin me. Obama did not return the salute given to him by his Marine guard plane side (at the helocopter) yesterday. What is the protocol for the President, and if a return is not required, shouldn't it be offered as a signal of courtesy and respect for the USMC? Cheers...H

BWAAAA-HAAAAA-HAAAAA....That right there is some low hanging fruit! Mighty fine trolling attempt. ;)

Good question. Since Obama did not serve in the military, I think a salute would be out of order, but some sort of recognition is due. Kinda like the National Anthem. Military salutes, civvies put their hand over their heart.

Maybe a "thank you" nod as deplaning (dechoppering)????

in PCS there is an option to set preferences for flying on X days for yellow slips. I haven't paid too much attention to this. What happens if you are awarded a yellow slip trip on your days off? You can put in date ranges or a specific trip. Can any one explain how this works and how those trips are awarded?

Here's a quote from a friend of mine who just retired from Andrews AFB...

I had the distinct honor of serving as the Joint Base Andrews Commander, a position which included the responsibility to greet the President when he either flew in on Marine One/Air Force One as well as when he played golf at Andrews. Our security personnel worked hand in hand with the Secret Service to ensure the President’s safety, a mission we took very seriously. In the course of my responsibilities, I had probably 100 10-15 second chats with the President (and occasionally, with the First Lady, Vice President, etc.). In all of those dealings, the President never failed to be the most gracious, kind, and respectful man imaginable for our military personnel and me. He and his staff treated us extremely well...

He goes on at length to discuss how he does not agree with the President's politics, but I don't think his treatment military men and women has been an issue.

Buzz has first-hand experience, so he would know best about this. President Clinton was very friendly with the military when Hilary wasn't around, but Hilary had a huge dislike for the military as First Lady, requiring the military to wear civvies in the West Wing. Al Gore had an elitist distain for military members who were beneath him, in his eyes. Bush 41 and 43 were always friendly and respectful with the military. Can't speak to Obama - the latest issue is the auto-signing of letters to families of Navy SEALS who died in the line of duty. Donald Rumsfeld auto-signed and was harshly rebuked.

I think Obama has been following protocol. There was a time during the 2008 campaign where he was criticized for not wearing an American flag lapel pin and for not putting his hand over his heart during the national anthem.

Taking care of military families has been a big priority for Mrs. Obama. Politics aside, I don't think there is any significant basis to complain about their treatment of individual military members.

Travelnet Question

hey Guys,

One of my non-dependent kids just traveled Atl/Sea on a 3B yield fare , round trip. She missed the return leg, and when I went to the travelnet to re-book her return leg, The entire record locator had been removed.

I had to pay another yield fare to book her return leg, and I can find NO way to apply for a refund on the original return leg. I have been to the travel history page, and everywhere else I can think of....no luck.

ESC is closed on the weekend.......any ideas, or info would be appreciated .

Thanks,
BG

I absolutely agree! While we're making the reserve system and the line holder QOL more equitable, we should take a look at the distribution of super-premium wide body captain seats. My QOL would be much better if I were a 747 or 777 captain, but only the stinking top 10% get those positions. It's just not fair. :)
