All good points...

Good points, but wrong.

Captain Jeff Clay of Comair 5191 was trained at Delta's very own Comair Aviation Academy.

I flew with him and I always got the impression that safety was his highest priority. He ran a professional and company-standard flight deck, and looked forward to going home to his wife and young daughters after each trip.

Was Clay fatigued? Perhaps. Distracted? Probably. Sloppy? No. Careless? On that day, when it mattered most, yes... for about two minutes... and people died.

The FO was.

The CA on Colgan 3407 was a Gulfstream Product. I don't think that was mentioned.

Well one candidate for Captain Rep is a notorious "Boy Captain" from MCO's Express operation.

He basically never flew FO and was a Delta Captain before he was 30.
How can anyone who's had a career like that relate to the feeling of stagnation the majority of us feel?

He sure stagnated there ... he's in DC9 school now. He has been through a lot, matured, listens and considers facts logically. When he and I have been on different sides of issues he's gathered information, asked intelligent questions and reached rational conclusions. IMHO he would do an excellent job if voted into office.

Correct. The rub comes with whether the trip was in the domestic or the ER bid package. The company cannot call out a domestic guy for a ER category trip and vice versa without paying premium pay to a couple guys. The domestic guy also has the restriction of not doing augmented trips etc. There's more to it but that's basically it.

Denny

Actually per the contract the company can't ever reroute a pilot from one category to another. It was done in violation of the contract. The settlement in the grievance process was to pay double pay for the legs involved. I opposed this and felt DALPA should have insisted on compliance. This would have forced the company into a traditional shutdown of the domestic categories instead of slowly bleeding them to death.

Hard to call it stagnation when you're a lineholder in the MD88 Capt (around 395) and you voluntarily bid to be in the top 20 of the DC9 Capt.

You don't think his position on DOH (and a junior USAir-East spouse) are a potentially worrisome "conflict of interest"?

When consolidation mania hits again, I want my representative voting for my interest, not the interests of their spouse's airline.

You didn't ask me, but I don't have a problem with his position on a single subject. I would have a problem if he was way out there on all topics of interest to me, but he's not!
Are you a single subject/topic voter?

Is there a rule I don't know about or are the Mods using their editorial powers to slant the debate for their own goals.

I have a question. It stems from a post that seems to be gone now.
Are the Mod's paid? Or are they partners in the company that owns APC?

If they work for this APC company, they have a financial interest in making this site full of juicy info and debate.

If they are ALPA reps, they will have access to all kinds of juicy info and debate.

How would you put a firewall between these two things, and avoid a -gasp- conflict of interest?

And if you're trying to get elected --and you have a whole army of internet soldiers who can control a popular communications platform-- should you disclose that to the voters? Is that also a conflict?

BlueMoon 09-29-2012 06:40 AM

Mods are not paid.

I think there is a "gentlemen's agreement" that we don't "out" people on this board. That's why no one is talking much about a certain candidate.
