An ETF is a fund that trades a sector vice individual stocks. It matches thr sectors performance in price. You can find ETFs for pretty much any category that is out there.

Only select ETF's that have large volume. Many have been created as loss leaders for various brokerage companies and really aren't investable. Volume is the key metric.

The advantage of an ETF is two fold, it reduces the risk of earnings and news events, it eliminates the individual bankruptcy risk of an individual company (something we know a lot about.) It's all about spreading risk.

ETF's can be traded as a stock in the brokerage account or as an option strategy, such as a covered call or cash secured put in the brokerage account, or as an option only strategy at your favorite broker. There are inverse ETF's that are bearish on the market. There are double and triple beta ETF's that magnify the move of an index by two or three times. They can be traded in IRA's and 401(k)'s, too.
