Well, I bought an expensive boat years ago too. I had to give that back due to a 42% pay cut. No reason DALPA couldn't do the same and stay in a more frugal hotel.

Perhaps you'd care to weigh in on the issue at hand (company requiring non-flying duties during duty time with no additional pay or precedent for doing so). Why the silence from DALPA?

The Timbo Approach.

What you now have to do is, when you get to your next gate, A34, instead of going right on board and getting ready to push ASAP, you have to stop and pick up the Gate Agents' mic and start yapping:

"Hi All Y'all, I'm Captain Dick Hungwell, and this is First Officer Craven Morehead. I know we are late, but we just got in to D34, on time, but then we had to wait 10 mintues for a ground crew to show up to park us, and then for an agent to open the door. Seems they were not expecting an Airplane to show up in Atlanta, ON TIME! Now, I'd like to be on board right now, getting ready to go, but some dork on the 4th floor who has no line pilot experience, decided I need to start making Gate Agent P/A's every 15 minutes instead! In just a few minutes, after we find some Food, we will begin preflighting the airplane, but in 15 minutes, I'll need to stop what I'm doing, and come out here to make another 'why we are late' P/A, so it's probably going to be at least 30-45 minutes before we are ready. Just be glad we are not flying into Washington National on a Dark and Stormy night, and my name is not Chris Manno!" Why you should NEVER fly into Washington National Airport « JetHead's Blog

Only do this in between pasting Jesse worthy pictures in all the unknown spots.:D

I jumped in to add some background I was given, and a little of what I have witnessed.

You seem to have weighed in enough on this issue. Now go call your Reps and tell them why its wrong so they can direct the admin to or not to talk to the company. As for the silence. Ask your Rep, I have no idea as I have not seen the FOB myself. I have not been to work to pick it up and read it.

Oh that one. I thought you were referring to the MEC. I laughed at that one.

Really? The admin needs "direction" on when to advocate for Delta pilots?

IMO, the Timbo approach is not without merit.

When would be a good time to address this then? I say the sooner the better. And sailing, if you don't care to respond that's fine, I'll assume you're fine with the policy as written... certainly your prerogative.

But for my dues money, which is as green as yours, I want my union to get clarification from the company as to whether I am now to remain posted at the gate during pre boarding delays as the policy states, and if so, negotiate a section of the contract or a side letter that deals with this completely new duty obligation and the associated pay and working conditions under which I will do so.

Let me know if I should. Then I might. But then, I might not. I just don't know. I should know, but I don't know.

Captain Enda Cision

Kind of moot point since the FOB states under "Delay Known Prior to Boarding" "Captain (or FO if Captain desires) will make initial PA to passengers."

Never been to a BOD, but I talked to a few reps about the perception and they explained the reasoning with the info they had.

That's just dumb.

Bueller....anyone?

They should spend the 10 minutes it would take to gen a letter up, send it through the wickets, and get on record stating they are against this FOB. I pay dues to have a union represent me and enforce the PWA we have agreed to. This is not in that PWA. I doubt getting on record against this policy would take more than 1/50th of the time it took to figure out how to ignore the fact MD-88/90 crews are just as productive as 320/319 crews yet weren't worth the $2 to $3/hr in pay to bring them in line with one another.
