That should work fine.

If you don't understand the long-term ramifications of the company unilaterally imposing non-contractual obligations upon us with nary a peep from "our" union, there's nothing I can do to help you.

Strategy. It's not just for executives. johnso29 and DALPA, I suggest you look into it.

Here's an idea! Don't do it!!! Just DON'T make the PA's. Who freaking cares? Perhaps you can give me another example of the company "unilaterally imposing non contractual obligations upon us", since it happens so much. In a world of constructive engagement, you learn to pick and choose your battles. This one isn't worth anyone's time.

Do you want the union to attack the company for unilaterally imposing uniform standards. After all, that isn't in our contract.

How many dimes of your dues money should they waste defending a pilot from administration action/dicipline because their newfound superiors (formerly known as gate agents and flight attendants) wrote them up for not complying with what is sure to be interpreted as the "new rule"?

Or should we throw them to the wolves? What if that pilot is you? Or will you always always always make gatehouse announcements every 15 minutes under threat of dicipline? Every single time, without exception?

This is a far bigger deal than you are making it because of the precident it could set as well as the massive erosion of captain's authority created when every single front line employee suddenly has power over you to make gatehouse announcements or else they can write you up for a policy violation.

A memo now will cost a lot less than a single pilot defense, of which there may end up being a lot of because of this very poorly thought out memo.

How about you say you were getting coffee? Using the restroom? Taking a power nap? Walking for exercise? All physiological needs that overtake the necessity of anyone making a PA. My gawd! Stop whining.

Did it ever occur to you that the union isn't addressing this issue because an extremely small percentage of the pilot group are the only ones that think it's a terrible inconvienence?

Would Denzel make a gatehouse PA?

Any recommendations on headsets? Going to the 7ER. I still have the ear piece from when I was on the -9 and enjoyed the handheld mic pretending I was talking on the CB like a trucker :). If so, stores?

What does Denzel use?

On the -er, Denzel uses the David Clark on the plane up to 18k then switches to the hand mike and speaker for the rest of the leg. Denzel doesn't spend extra money on stuff he has to carry around.
