According to you, yes. ;)

Why is that?

We have far bigger battles to fight. Most of the interpretation of what is expected by this policy are out to lunch. Your not chained to the gate or the aircraft. They simply ask you to make a PA or give the agent some info to make a PA in situations where there is direct pilot involvement. Usually that is weather or maintenance issues. I know it will be a huge thing to get up from first class and put down the USA Today and make a PA. If a new departure time is posted then you can leave like always and go to the lounge or continue the nap in first class. The policy changes nothing about how I handle a delay. There are lots of things you should do as a pilot. The vast majority are not defined in the contract.
Reminds me of shortly after the merger we could not push because the NW flight attendant crew was unable to push a door handle 1 inch to the fully seated position. It was not in their union job description. Had to send the RP all the way to the back of the aircraft to push the handle 1 inch. We can all adopt that attitude and in 10 years no one will have a job.
This forum constantly screams about wanting to be like SWA. Yet know one wants to really act like SW where every employee works to make their operation the best it can be. Some posters here seem intent on burning their own house down. It gets hot when you do that!!

P.S. Never received a dime of flight pay loss. I could never afford the pay cut to do union work and I am far to lazy to work as hard as they do.

Kind of moot point since the FOB states under "Delay Known Prior to Boarding" "Captain (or FO if Captain desires) will make initial PA to passengers."

I'll say it again. If you're off getting coffee(tired due to delays), using the bathroom, or taking a cat nap, then you're addressing physiological needs which are an operational necessity. Done.

I still can't believe people are getting wound up about the PA bulletin. My gawd. Make a stupid PA and leave. It's really not difficult. If you don't want to, then don't do it. Who cares?

When would be a good time to address this then? I say the sooner the better. And sailing, if you don't care to respond that's fine, I'll assume you're fine with the policy as written... certainly your prerogative.

But for my dues money, which is as green as yours, I want my union to get clarification from the company as to whether I am now to remain posted at the gate during pre boarding delays as the policy states, and if so, negotiate a section of the contract or a side letter that deals with this completely new duty obligation and the associated pay and working conditions under which I will do so.

I agree, but I don't know that it hasn't been addressed.

This chat board isn't a direct line to our reps. It's a medium to toss around stuff and form an opinion.

If this gatehouse PA has you so totally upset that your world will end, pick up your phone and call your rep. Your point has been made here.

You're the one who thinks they need to address this stupid PA issue. Who freaking cares? I prefer they spend their time on more important things.

No, but calling your rep and providing input is an effective way of indicating a concern. Seems to have worked for that button on the on board video that was a great topic of conversation a few weeks ago eh?

That's just dumb.

If you think it is "dumb" for a labor union to support another labor union though its policy of supporting the hotels that are organized, so be it. Let your reps know, and if you feel strongly enough about it, write a resolution requesting a change to the policy.
