If DAL purchases the entire Singapore stake, it will be 49% of Virgin Atlantic.
Your Homework:
Read PWA Section 1.B.19, Section 1.C.1-2, 1.E.3-4, 1.F.3, and 1.P . Think and draw an unemotional conclusion as to how that will affect the Delta Pilots. Write a short essay, 500 words or less, have a peer review and proof-read it. Send to your reps. Await their response.
Before the end of the "Spring Semester"
:
Attend an LEC meeting to present any ideas to improve the union in resolution form, and make sure your voices are being heard and that the union representatives are being thoughtful, intelligent, and properly representing the will of their constituents.

How can I steer my rep on something he probably can't even confirm is happening. How do I know whether something is good, or bad, if I don't know what it is?
I trust my reps to do their best, but I think it's a little disingenuous to suggest any of us are failing to provide input on something this vague. I'd be pretty thrilled to read that I'm at least going to vote on the results.
You have any input on that? I don't need 500 words; a sentence will do.
Sounds a little sanctimonious, Shiznit. Don't take this as sarcasm, but I assume one won't be able to attend the pertinent discussions, since they'll be in closed session. I also assume we won't be able to present input that is thoughtful, intelligent, or meaningful, since it will be necessity uninformed input.

I'm saying that we ALL need to read the applicable parts of the PWA.
(including me, I re-read those sections twice tonight....my Steelers already won so I had little else to do
).You can still provide input to your reps even if it is theoretical.
I think that the language is there to read. I sincerely hope guys take the time to dig into it a little bit and then inform their reps on the "direction" they would like to see us take.
Obviously the detail work will be done in closed session and by the NC when applicable, but it is up to us to make our position known and what we'd like to see. How else will the reps know they have a mandate from their constituents unless we give them one?
I don't get to sit in on the closed session briefs either, but I will make sure that I am as knowledgeable about the PWA as I can, and be equipped to take a logical, rational position on what I see happening.
My rep knows my stand on most issues. While he doesn't always necessarily agree with my perspective, I have influenced him to look at issues from perspectives he hadn't considered. MANY more times he has offered salient points that countered what I thought initially but were much better and well-thought out than what I had concluded, and thus changed my stance.
Sorry that was more than one sentence, I'm not into the whole brevity thing.
Speed reading this thread is always fun.
It's half freaking out about buying Virgin, Bar's protesting, Timbo can't wait to fly with their FA's because ours are grandmas and beer and boobs, and beer and boobs and dog gifs...

Nothing worries this group.

Well I sailed on the Enterprise, a nuclear wessle, for a whole day. And man did my legs hurt. How do you live on a ship for months??
Anyways, I'm glad I got to go on it.
Launched in 1960, retired this past weekend.
Ain't it amazing.
F-14s... gone.
USS Enterprise... retired.
Top Gun at Miramar... moved.
Kelly McGillis... not the same.
Tom Cruise... still looks the same?

So... I'm trying to wrap my head around this Virgin Atlantic thing. Needless to say, I'm quite nervous about the codeshare scope agreement that will be done with DALPA, particularly after the Virgin Australia one just signed.

Oh, and VA is yet another company we are codesharing with that is taking delivery of very large aircraft while we are trading large aircraft for smaller, lower paying metal.
Well.... we'll see.

Virgin does have some A380's on order. They are there to replace 747's. They also have 787's on order however they will replace larger A340's. They have no real fleet growth planned and are losing money. Branson is rumored to be getting tired of his airline empire sucking cash out of the rest of his business activities and wants out. A deal to purchase VA might also allow for the shutdown or sale of Virgin America. They have extremely low pay rates and our depressing yields in many key transcon markets.

If there is anything to this and DAL pulls it off it may in fact be a major strategic win for us in the long run.
