1.2 billion profit 2011, RA said he sees 1.6 for this year....I think we got 4.8% in 2011, which I guess we would be at approx. 6.24% for this next check. Just my wag

and don't forget about 35% goes to taxes unless you dump it in 401K

So that inflow plus there is a lot of benefit from the contract in the form of these 76-seats swaps and been able to increase the 76-seat count and return for getting 60-seaters out. So there is lot of pieces that move in and out of the economics of that transaction, but with that said, once we get to 65 we will have a significant number of retirements and we don't anticipate being in a situation where we have pilot hiring in 2013 as we sit today, but obviously as people hit the 65 age limitation, we will be hiring at the bottom of the seniority list. We haven't done an analysis of what the trade off is there, but overall the pilot contract and when you take the totality of all the terms, the productivity, the scope clause and the flexibility that gives us to be able to manage the business to the peak, its all in a good yield in terms of the overall profitability of the airline."

I guess it was announced.

Further evidence of looking at what is actually happening and not listening to the projections.

So what's "actually" happening? He didn't say "We won't be hiring in 2013". And did you see slide #19? Mainline grows while RJs shrink. :)

He didn't? Not anticipating a situation where we have pilot hiring in 2013 seemed to be a pretty clear indication to me.

"Anticipating" is not a guarantee. And what about slide #19?

Why does slide 19 equal hiring in 2013? I'm sure Ed is aware of slide 19 and he just said he does not anticipate hiring.

Spin it any way you want but it seems to me we just got it from the proverbial horses mouth that they do not anticipate hiring in 2013.

It's a small sample size, but a little left field data suggests that some of it is attrition.

I was talking to one of our Hawaiian Pursers (who commutes to ATL from HNL...ie crazy guy) who said that the company hired lots of Japanese speakers from Hawaii.......then based them in NYC where they didn't fly to Japan. Needless to say, most of them quit.

There is a super nice and super HOT girl that works at a Mexican Food place near the house here in PHX. She was real excited about getting an interview with Delta a few months back to be a spanish speaking FA. She was really sad to tell me she turned down the job after she found out that she was going to be based in NYC and couldn't see the commute.

NWA went through the same problem with Chinese speakers in the 90s. Don't remember where they were from, but they were based in DTW flying DC-9 trips.......they barely spoke english.......they didn't last long either.

Ferd

If they want someone to cover all 3 NY airports, they should hire ME. :D I live within 25 minutes-1 hour of all 3. I applied, but doubt I'll even get a phone interview which is what happened their last hiring window. Oh well......

I'm sorry you feel that way. But I have rules that I'm responsible for maintaining.

Seems like right now our contract and it's 3 year window is allowing the imbalance. Something needs to be punitive to the company if they break our contract.

I can't believe with our "ALPA lawyers and labor experts" we can't find better language to protect ourselves if the company breaks the PWA.

Sorry we are posting path each other.

My concern with a 10% "penalty" is that such an amount might actually incentivize management to violate scope. (Using an extreme example, if we could be replaced with US Air, the Company could pay us 10% and still save a chunk) We generally tend to under value pilots' jobs in real terms.

I'll be your reality man. We are looking at a 20 year upgrade to a narrowbody. 5 years of it has already been served. We have that going for us. Wake up.
