I'll get whacked, again. It looks like a few LAX folks will be moving. Atlanta will be getting more senior, even on the 88. CVG will probably go more junior, as will NYC (if that's even possible). But, nothing about this says "furlough" to me.

Agree. Not as bad as we were led to believe. No ER MD's throughout the entire system although we have already announced a 15% reduction in intl flying starting in Sep. Surprising. Glad to see the 73 plus ups. Maybe most of us will be able to hold onto our seats except the very bottom folks. MD's are not good news but this is OK news relative to the newly announced upcoming mgmt layoffs.

Also, spoke with a ATL 76 F/O on a layover last week and he said that ATL 7ER guys were getting assigned domestic trips and had domestic trips in their open time that they (ATL domestic) could not p/u. Told him to get the union involved. Of course domestic pilots will appear overmanned if you give their trips away to other categories.

What an amazing coincidence: the number of surplus equals the number of vacancies...

For us lowly FO, here's the prognosis in net inc/dec for each base:

-27 in ATL, +27 in NYC, +15 in CVG, -3 in SLC, last but not least, -12 in LAX. As expected, the long awaited west coast expansion hasn't occured yet:)

They're just waiting to see what it will cost them when California goes BK.

California is not alone in this department.

I thought our great state has gone under for a while already! Most of us that choose to live here has no choice but to hunker down until the housing market stop the downward spiral. In the mean time, i'll have to start thinking about my ATL/MSP commute.

Kinda funny since that's the 2 cities that I commuted out of from my previous employers.

I don't not have long left in California, due to a pending move back east. This is my third time living in CA. People always talk trash about the state, but people are still moving here. It's the 7th largest economy in the world. It's not going away.

It's like a Dallas guy that I flew with recently that was telling me how Californians refuse to drill for oil. Asked him if he had driven through the central valley lately. Bakersfield area is just wall to wall oil wells. Strategic Petroleum Reserve there as well. When oil was approaching $150/barrel I saw new oil wells being drilled along the coast just South of Ventura within 1/4 of the beach. I imagine within a 8 mile stretch, I saw 20 new well being drilled. The Santa Barbara Channel, just in front of my house has several of the largest oil platforms that I have ever seen in my life. I guess the national news channels did happen to see this.

The point is, California is not going anywhere. I hope that Delta eventually will have a good foothold here as they did when they bought Western. 80% of international flights flown out of LA are by foreign carriers. (Statistics 2-3 years old).

Well, the construction isn't quite as good, but some buildings DO last a pretty long time.
