Right from Dickson's mouth at the DTW meeting:

"we are roughly 400 overstaffed in the south and more or less even in the north going into the winter"...considering the PRIP, ANC closing and new rigs kicking in.

He also stated a few times that there is no way to run the airline on the minimum staffing formula and they know that. The accountants say over by XXX, and that might not be the real number..

He emphasized that when speaking about staffing, you have to be a little fuzzy, because that's what frames the picture.

I agree, if we ran the airline at PBS min staffing we would not be running an airline. That is as low as they can go, and normally operate well above it

This bid sets the company up well for growth or further reductions. It was another non committal realignment.

Of course you'd like some additional protection. You're way out of seniority in your current position (hundreds of domestic 767 and 73N Captains senior to you), so any downward movement risks you not getting back for several years. It's not unlike what happened when MCO closed, and the Express Captains had to wait several years til their seniority allowed them to hold mainline.

If I were in your shoes, I'd want the additional protections too. It's the only way you'll hold on to the job up there.

Let's hope it's for growth. :o

You are exactly right, although I am not currently out of seniority at all. And besides, all those guys had a chance to bid it when I did... before even, and they didn't. Now they just might benefit from the upturn after the downturn. And, there are a lot of narrowbody northies that are gonna get a run at it too when things start back up. I guess them's just the breaks... I still don't have to like it though.

They're trying it at Compass, and it ain't workin' too well. For example, as taken from the Compass Home Page, here are our stats for August (only 7 days) up to now:

Arr. w/in 14: 83.2%
On-Time Factor: 67.7%

I feel happy that I am out on vacay and am happily ignoring the calls from scheduling and the offers for 1.5x pay.

Question: will we look better to DAL if we perform better or worse? I can go either way.

Does anyone else remember when Fabio had a "bird strike" while riding a roller coaster? Just about ruined his "career." What a cheese ball....no, not Bucking, Fabio.

WOW, I think I actually killed this thread once and for all. One too many Fabio references, apparently.

I think it happened at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, I don't ever think i'd heard of a bird strike on a roller coaster then or I guess since. Very odd.

I really think it'd make a great avatar for Bar.

I think for the benefit of the company and the pilot a pilot should have recall rights as long as the pilot qualifies for the short course. That way the pilot gets their seat back and the company saves on the training costs as they start moving pilots to senior positions.
It is a win win for both parties.
I have heard that you can get the short course after two or three years, I am not sure which.

This thread will never die.
To much to talk about. I am sure that if we keep it up we will celebrate a few retirements on here.
