I was just surprised that it did not have the same amount of CA positions as FO. I know it is not much, but there was a difference.

It could have been worse and I know that. They went the conservative route which is always good.
Lots of new positions in NYC.....

WRT to setting up for furloughs, I agree with ACL: the bodies are where they need to be. They have been there ever since the ER went to newhires, something that never happened before.

Some people guess that we will know a furlough is coming when they overman the M-88's and DC-9's. I disagree. That's the way it had to be done some time ago. Right now, the company could simply take out a few hundred, and, as if by magic, it would shave a few % of every category. You'd never see it coming, if you were watching for overstaffing on the bottom equipment to be your warning.

The fact they are configured to furlough easily, but have not, is what's truly encouraging in this case.

South guys/gals,

So, with this AE, do any DAL-S pilots have the 180 day recall rights to get back to their original position? I know the last one came out in January, but what if they were displaced in March? Or, wasn't the Jan. AE for Jan. '10? We should really work on getting full, unlimited recall rights back so I won't get so confused. :D

I asked this question the other day about the DAL-N side. I was displaced off of the Baby bus and it was explained to me that until Bid Period 5 we on the north side have unlimited recall rights so my 180 days doesnt start until BP5. The question is, is that BP5 for the Bus or BP5 for the -9 since thats what i'm on? Who's monitoring this? I cant get the real answer on this, i keep getting hmm thats a grey area! Clear as mud?

Unlimited recall rights may seem like a good idea, but in reality, not so much. Imagine if you had the seniority to bid the 747-200 back when the base re-opened, only to be relegated to reserve, because pilots hundreds of numbers junior to you still had recall rights to the blockholder positions, even though the base had been closed for nearly 5 YEARS!!!

Our 180 days recall rights starts on the conversion date, so most of us that got bumped last time around, it'll expire for most at the end of the year. Also, reinstatement doesn't need an AE to be triggered, i.e. you check your schedule one day, and ecrew says you've been sent to Mecca for training, meaning you're sent back to your previous category. I believe it is totally separate as to how they run AE/disp. Unlimited recall rights don't seem to work too well if you're junior, i'm afraid, hehe... But I like your idea nontheless:)

Don't care... I would rather we had some protection especially now in this downturn.

That is also off the PBS min staffing model. We always run the company with more than the min.
I'd say we are 600 fat for the winter on the South side.

FWIW

Right from Dickson's mouth at the DTW meeting:

"we are roughly 400 overstaffed in the south and more or less even in the north going into the winter"...considering the PRIP, ANC closing and new rigs kicking in.

He also stated a few times that there is no way to run the airline on the minimum staffing formula and they know that. The accountants say over by XXX, and that might not be the real number..

He emphasized that when speaking about staffing, you have to be a little fuzzy, because that's what frames the picture.

FWIW,

The answer I got from a North TWG member was that the change from unlimited to 180 day recall rights converts at SOC...not BP5...so essentially June 1010 for all (if SOC is on time)

I'm interested too....
