Not affiliated with DL but would be interesting to hear the back story from any of you that know the crews from either of the 777's involved in the DL201 incident from Jan 9th. Must have been quite the phone call to get to go take a 777 (believe it was N703DN) to Ascension Island with some mechanics on board to pick up the pax. Once in a lifetime opportunity for sure. I must say bloody outstanding job by the crew of DL201 (N705DN) getting into FHAW in the middle of the night with what I understand no approach lights available and an upslope on the rwy on one engine.
N705DN got additional damage on the ground from being clipped by another aircraft. I read DL chartered an Atlas 744 to take a replacement engine down. Any of you DL guys know any of the crews and what they thought about it?

Great find! The replacement plane left ATL as DAL9978 at 0243 in the morning and the original 201 crew flew it back to ATL.

The 9978 crew looks like they are hanging out until the plane is fixed and scheduled to depart on the 13th.

That's a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore that place.

Used to do it all the time in the Lifter. Big NASA tracking station there, in addition to the Brits. GREAT layover. Ask some old guys about the MAC Mobile.

I really really want to see a middle aged white airline pilot come cruising into the parking lot in a car like that.

I may have to be that guy one day.

With your baby boy in the car seat in the back......;)

Good thread on the DALPA forum on this.
