Cause I can't envision a scenario that will require us to add significantly more block hours because of the future JV. Even if we can't reduce to the UK now, can the VAt JV be used in such a way that we reduce elsewhere,relative to our current total?

IOW, besides theoretical profit sharing down the road, how will this effect DAL pilot block hours?

If you listen closely to what was said the day Delta purchased a 49% stake in VA there are overtones of growth on that side of the Atlantic through VA, who management knows has a more sexy product and could pull more business travelers. In today's broadcast they stated having VA onboard just won a corporate bank flying account. I say good for Delta! but when DALPA signs off on another lopsided growth strategy (where Delta mainline pilots get the short end of the stick) you can tell Johnson to put down his pom poms.

Yep, California is slitting its throat. We're right on the edge of leaving. My wife is from here, her family lives here, but she's ready to bolt. The weather's great, the schools are good where we live and we have lots of great friends. So far, it's been worth it, barely. With these new laws, it's getting less and less so. Plus, the trips on my jet suck.

APC has reps? Mr. Kite?

Buzz;
When you finally decide to leave the peoples republic, where are you looking to go? I'll assume you want to be relatively near a mil base. This is your opportunity to get everyone's 2 cents on where you should live.

I, on the other hand, realize that in addition to some 50 seaters there's some reduction in mainline as well. You fail to see that with your rose colored glasses, or at least you seem to be willing to impart that as what's taking place. Take the blinders off. We have a great company, one which I am proud to be a part of. But I won't pretend everything is rainbows and gumdrops. That kind of unrealistic viewpoint only leads to acceptance of how things are, and indicates an unwillingness to improve our status. But in your world a guy who isn't singing from the hilltops how life can't get any better is one who needs to leave. Just have to chuckle, really.

The company has clearly stated their fleet plan. It is to increase the mainline from the low of 720 jets to 796 jets over the next 3.5 years. They have signed contracts to do exactly that on the exact schedule they stated during contract negotiations. They have also stated that if the economy improves they could generate additional growth via slowing retirements and exercising the options they hold on the 737-900ER's. The planned 757 and DC9 retirements have both been much slower then what was projected shortly after the merger.

This is true and again begs the question why we see no hiring in the next 12 months when the planned new airframes will begin flying in 9 months (training much sooner). The economy has actually started a slow climb and I would argue that europe is not any worse than it was a year ago when multiple countries were nearing bankruptcy BEFORE our contract. People just don't like used car salesmen for a reason. The truth is always better...even if it stings a little.

I'm not one that thinks we should hire just to hire. However I'm tired of being told what I want to hear just to close some sort of deal like I'm the last chick at the bar or something. If it was going to be like this I would rather have heard it last year.

Same goes for any JV's. Just come out and say hey this is good for the company but it is going to hurt you guys but we need to do it for the shareholders or something. Sneakiness leads to distrust.
