Because...If trip parking went away, the only way to do that is if someone posts a trip drop on the PTP swap board (as a just take it). The pick up limit is the limit for the most part now. Right? In my category, a just take it trip drop is just slightly less rare than a greenslip. |

As you said, it's done via white slips during vacation months, and via pickups from the swap board during non-vacation months.

I dont mind a little exaggeration, but "half the guys I fly with..." don't have the option to fly over 100 hrs month in, month out. So, my 3 pronged strategy has been: 1.Credit to the max in vacation months using whiteslips; and 2. (especially in high alv months) bid reserve and move x-days to minimize exposure in other months, and 3.bid a line in other months and just fly it as delivered. IMO, in a way ALPA protected us from ourselves by getting the ALV (and subsequent reserve guarantee) raised. It takes the sting out of reserve and IMO, when guys bid like I do, we are not doing the harm to manning like some here surmise...And still crediting 90+ hrs/month on average across the year. |

George,
You are probably correct. The old time traditional Frequent Flier was the corporate guy who did not know what his Company paid for his ticket. Mostly those are tickets for fully refundable last minute travel (kind of like a positive space non rev, and that's exactly how it "feels" ) Because most of my clients' assignments are near my office, I never rack up a lot of miles. Yet, on average my tickets cost > $1,000 plus service fees. For purchasers like me, this change is terrific. Since I'm usually paying 400% of a First Class ticket booked 14 days out it is nice for the program to evolve its standards for recognition. Many of our FF are leisure travelers who are very savy at scoring low priced fares. God bless those folks, we love their business. But, it is a little unfair for the high margin guys to get thrown in back when you consider what they pay for "flexibility." We just have to be careful not to offend our lower yielding passengers by letting them know in some way that we appreciate them too. US Air produced surprisingly good numbers this year. If they merge with American they are going to be even tougher competition, particularly for the flexible travelers. |

not on you vacation days, but premonth vacation counts as pay/credit...in the month it is pay no credit. So, what you do is put a trip on other off days.

So with the change to FF will there be more, less, or the same opportunity for a non rev to get up front, that is the big question!
