I agree with all of that 100%, but wouldn't you agree that there are some who believe that pilots attempt to process an out time as early as possible to gain a few minutes on each leg?

I remember hearing a few years back that an ER flight was getting ready for pushback with their beacon on by a gate adjacent to the chief pilot's office and the captain apparently got a call wondering why it took so long to push. This used to be common thing in NYC with on gate in particular, but it hasn't been an issue for a few years now.

Personally I don't believe that being compensated from block out to block in accurately reflects what a flight crew should be compensated. I'd like to see this addressed in the next contract, but seeing as a majority of flights I fly, at least, are typically under block, I see it as a moot point. If scheduled block times start to shrink though, this my become more of an issue.

I questioned a rep on why we did not go after at least getting paid at cabin door closure. His response was that hourly rate would have to be adjusted lower for that to happen. I do not expect them to change it next time either.

Makes about as much sense as cutting profit sharing to fund a pay raise.

fixed it for you.

We could easily fix this whole beacon on = flight pay nonsense by changing the word "Duty" to "Flight" ie. we get paid FLIGHT PAY for all time on Duty. Then there would be zero incentive to turn the beacon on, until you are fully ready and cleared to push.

It shouldn't matter if we are sitting in a black chair for 3 hours, waiting to fly to RDU, or DHing around the system, or if you are sleeping on the way to Dubai, we should be getting paid Flight Pay when we are At WORK.

If the company would rather sit us in a black chair in ATL, than fly us, well, that's their choice, but FU, PM comes to mind.

That would be one way to partially recover our 32.5% pay cut, you know, the one some of us took to keep Delta -out- of Bankruptcy.

If you are cleared to push and hit the beacon but then ramp says hold your position change of plans, or the tug dies, are we supposed to turn the beacon back off?

I had the former happen last night.

A cost neutral contract.

A Delta pilot is the new COO of Pinnacle? Huh?

Can you link it to the story or is it on deltanet. edit: Just read it. BW is a guy that has earned my respect...FWIW. Personally, I wish they retained him at DAL in some capacity.
