When I see what's going on at SWA today, with GK in charge, it reminds me of what happened to Delta when Mo'Ron took over. It only takes one new CEO who strays off the proven path, to ruin many years of customer satisfaction and employee loyalty, and ultimately destroy the company.

That's why when, in 1983, they ordered the (new) 767's, the employees contributed enough money to buy the first one, as a show of gratitude for not furloughing. In 1985, Delta had been number 1 in Customer Satisfaction for 17 straight years. Until Mo'Ron took over, Delta had NEVER lost money for a single quarter, let alone a full year!

Then, in 1987, Dave Garrett retired, and instead of picking Hollis Harris (the guy who talked to our newhire class) the board chose Ron Allen as the new CEO...

Ron bought Pan Am, paid 3x too much for it, going into a huge recession in 1991, and for the first time in Delta's history, started furuloughing people in 1993. His famous quote, when asked if that would have a negative impact on all employee morale, was, "So Be It".

Ron was so bad, the board finally fired him (didn't renew his contract) and hired Leo Mullen, who WAS the KING of Outsoucing! Leo came from McKinsey Associates, an outsourcing consulting firm.

It was Leo and his underling, Fred Reid, who bought 600 RJ's, gave them to Com Air and ASA, to replace our narrow body flying.
Timbo,

I didn't come along until 1990 and Mo'Ron was already CEO. Everyone spoke very highly of Hollis Harris, and the frequently pondered question was "Why wasn't Hollis Harris the CEO?" My recollection is Hollis Harris was pretty much universally liked and respected by Delta employees whereas Mo'Ron was not. When it was announced Mo'Ron was leaving there was quite a bit of celebration amongst employees.

I've wondered how different Delta would be if Hollis Harris had been given the top job instead of Ron Allen. Perhaps we would have escaped the disastrous tenure of Leo Mullin as well....

I think it was late 1990 when Mr. Harris left Delta for Continental, and maybe a year later became the CEO of Air Canada.

Yeah, we were all stunned when Hollis was stepped over, for Mo'Ron. There were a couple rumors going around, that somehow Ron was 'connected' to a couple guys on the Board, the guy from Coke specifically. And the other rumor was, "Hollis is too old, they wanted someone younger and 'fresh'." Ron was like Hitler, and he HATED pilots.

Back then, if you wanted to work for Delta, you started on the ramp, loading bags and/or cleaning toilets. If you did a good job, maybe you could move inside, to cleaning crew, if you did a good job at that, maybe you could move up to Gate Agent. But everyone who touched a Delta Airplane, worked for Delta, and they wanted to do a good job, so they could move up.

Supposedly, after Ron graduated from Georgia Tech, he came to Delta, and was being groomed for management, but he did some time as a gate agent, to learn the business. The story goes that he got into it with many, many, many Captains, over who was in charge of the flight, prior to pushback, and mx delays, etc.

That was where his hatred of pilots started, but it got worse when, later, he was in Personell, and on the company Negotiating Team. I flew F/O for one of the DALPA Negotiators from back then, and when it was announced that Ron was taking over, this guy said, "It's going to get ugly for pilots! I sat across the table from this guy during negotiations, and I've never seen anyone who hates us as much as this guy!"

I only heard Hollis speak that one time, when he came to talk to our new hire class, but he was very nice, old school, "Welcome to the Delta FAMILY" kind of guy, everyone spoke well of him. Where as Ron was known as the psycotic dad who picked up the gun and wiped out the Delta Family.

We all wished that Hollis been chosen over Mo'Ron.

If you already paid out of pocket for it on your own, I'm not sure if you can still expense it, but I wouldn't know for sure. The company pays for it through CIBT and turn around time was about 1-2 weeks.

I'm a green card carrying hoser. I can't use cibt. I had to pay out of pocket. Guess ill just expense it and see what happens. (-:

great app, but it keeps loosing more and more of it's value as it gets restricted by Delta. Used to be able to look at open time with one single button press... now you have to do 30 keystrokes or so and enter your passwords etc. but still better than logging into Icrew.

And yeah, there is a blurb on it now saying they are not accepting "renewal subscriptions", and the website still says it is undergoing a security eval from Delta and hope to have good news soon. For 5 months or something. So I guess maybe you can't use it if you don't have it, and soon I won't be able to use it either ;(

They currently aren't taking any new subscribers, nor are they allowing renewals to existing subscribers--all due to the same DAL restrictions.

God forbid some enterprising pilot should make a stellar product that DT won't themselves make (see Crew Dog Terminal for iPad thread on the DALPA forums).

Does anyone know how this works....? I have a 4 day coming up and after the first 2 legs, the LCA has an OE scheduled, so I'm off the trip. Is there some kind of time frame by which they have to assign me something else or send me home? (The second leg ends outside my domicile too).
