I posted here a few weeks ago regarding this deal.

Back then I told you this deal is "pilot neutral" for mainline DAL. That means it doesn't cost any significant amount of existing mainline jobs and it doesn't create any significant amount of new mainline jobs.

My question is about the following statement in the press release:

As part of the transaction, Delta also will exchange a limited number of international route authorities to US Airways for service to Brazil and Japan. These transfers will not result in any material schedule changes for Delta customers.
What did we give away?

Apologies if this was answered earlier but I didn't have time to slog through all the new posts since the deal was announced.

Thanks. Sailing must still be fighting the SLI arbitration and has a confederate flag in the back of his PU. Hint: if we furlough anytime in the future it's gonna be all of us. More mainliners are better, even DC9's

DAL does not like it. It has issues that make them very wary. That said, never say never.

Just my $.02.....

Comair may have aircraft parked all over God's green earth, but I'm confident they will not be utilizing these aircraft for any service increase out of LGA. I personally expect Comair to continue to shrink and I wouldn't be surprised if the CR7 and CR9 aircraft that they operate were eventually transferred to another carrier (unfortunately, not mainline), possibly in exchange for 50 seat aircraft that would then be removed from the system. The remaining flying, after mainline routes are assigned, would then be covered by another DCI carrier--Shuttle America or ASA anyone??--with DC-9s possibly backfilling some of their routes out of ATL.

Maybe ACL can validate this theory?

I will agree with Slow again. Twice in three days. (Taking note slow)

There are going to be mainline flights as well as regional flights added. We are going to get close to doubling the size of LGA.

Management does not necessarily want to fight for more 76 seat jets. For now what we have is what we will keep. Scope is always a fight and I truly believe that we need to cap the 76 seat jet at the 153. Make them put their money where their mouth is.

Those DC-9's will come in handy as well.
There is a plan here on what and how we will do this. It will start to show its head here in the next few days, weeks, and maybe even months.

This is good news for us. There will be added flying out of this. How this effects staffing going forward is still being looked at. That said, when we are going to see a real benefit from this is when the economy turns. We will need to bring a lot of jets out of VCV and that is where you will see the need for bodies. Not just from this announcement. What this does is puts the airplanes to use in the near term, and leaves a lot less room to grow with out adding bodies as we get to late 2010.

For now, I hope you like NYC. Those DAL-N guys that live in the area are going to have some good opportunities.

That is your wife correct? ;)

You theory is correct and OH's 70's and 90's may be migrating west in the coming months. October comes to mind as a decision time with a lot of DCI's jets and if leases get renewed, who is going to pay the leases, and if DAL is not paying for them, will the DCI carriers that fly the jets be willing to pay for the higher rates to maintain their lift.

The DCI picture is changing, and as stated a few posts ago, time to put Pandora back in her box. Lets make the company put it in writing and limit the 70/76 seat jets on property to the current number and the serial numbers that are flying.

Maybe some NWA cargo route authority. That press statement was very carefully worded, and really skirted around the fact of LCC ever actually operating these routes.

More to come.....

A man can dream, right? The eye candy in the avatar is actually sideline reporter Erin Andrews from ESPN.
