Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Hey Bar
Wonder if he can become the association's President without the vote of the Delta pilots, because I doubt he has the grasp on unity that is required to lead our association. A split union of "haves" and "have nots" is not a sure path to victory relying on the "non preferred" pilots' votes. Even if you promise them a flow up, it still is setting two standards in a union where each member should be equal.
I dont think he needs all the DAL pilots. If he brings the RAH guys over to ALPA from the Teamsters he will foster enough good will with the majority RJ pilots that, with some of the DAL guys, he'd have the votes he needs to be National Chairman. Further, by bringing the DCI pilots over to Mainline, he will advance his cause to move up to National. I submit that the flow throughs are just one of numerous step to do this very thing. Flow throughs are not the end objective. Set a min. DCI standard. Consolidate the DCI cariers. Establish flow throughs with the ultimate objective of merging them into the DAL list via the 100 seater.
All this cleverly serves dual purposes. It would appear to benefit all ALPA pilots while simultaneously advancing his own agenda.
As for the rest of you post................yeah buddy! (as they say in N.KY)

I am told (repeatedly) that management came to ALPA asking about putting Compass on the list as they did not know how to operate the flow down. This is just as M I and others said they would. This also makes the flow up more orderly as people can bid what they want, rather than being forced through a displacement/upgrade restriction.
I have stated senior pilots should get something for unity. If management wants it, any little gift would keep the seniors from complaining they had to buy back the scope they sold.
Step 3(b), Remove the two sentences in Section 1 that allow Compass to exist in the first place and reset the mainline fleet trigger. By simply moving the Compass jets to mainline and resetting that number as the floor, we prevent the excuse of using Compass to justify a 3 to 1 expansion of large RJ flying.

I think that we have some good faith credits built up for all of the giving we have done the last few years!

Giving up on 76 seat flying is not the answer. We need to have a firm commitment to holding the line at a min, reducing the amount of allowed RJ's to current numbers as a necessity, and recapturing when the opportunity arises.

Who is telling you this? I've been fairly involved the last couple of years and have heard none of this.
This is where your path breaks down against the contract language and real world that actually exists. Why would management want to "gift" us this piece? They were the ones that wanted it in the first place! Explain in detail how you make it happen, please.

- Flow does not work
- Delta needs to have a say in hiring Delta pilots
- It is more efficient to operate Compass at mainline
- Delta needs operational control
- Compass would have greater operational flexibility at mainline
I answer your questions for you to poke at, how about you answer a few of ours.
1. What harm is it to guarantee Delta pilots they will have Delta jobs if they flow down?
2. What benefits are there to unity?
3. Why are we against unity, or at least unwilling to pursue unity?
4. Why is our MEC against scope restoration?
5. When the majority of Delta pilots want action on restoring Delta flying to Delta, why is our MEC against them?

Also, to add to it, this flow will pick up steam in its current proposed state. What that means is resetting DCI costs where it once again will be advantageous to the company to promote outsourcing of this flying. That IMHO is an unintended consequence.
A victory is getting the company to agree to letting each DCI contract expire. In a few years all we will have is 70+ seat RJ's. To me that sounds like it was in the 80's when the DC-9-10 and 15 were around, the difference now is that the mainline is not flying them.

Again, management's interest may have waned since they have decided not to furlough this fall. The question will come up again. I want our MEC prepared with the correct answer next time.
We have squandered so many opportunities:
(1) JPWA - when management had mergers on their mind, we dod not even ask the question
(2) Scope grievance settlement
(3) Management's conundrum over the nonsensical flow
Upcoming opportunities
(4) Next scope negotiation - IE management wanted the JV, what's 300 pilots compared to the revenue with AF/KLM? Toss it on the table.
(5) Furloughs & Flow execution
(6) Next corporate merger transaction
(7) Section 6
(*) Who knows - there are more twists to this profession than a Andrei Bitov novel.

Again, I am told management came to ALPA. I am making an educated guess it was because:

Fact is that these are questions that need to be answered. Why, Why Why?
Makes people sound like scope chickens because they keep clucking when they do not get answers.
Most everything else gets answers, this has not.
