That's all true, but the worst part is, it's not over yet. We are still sliding backwards, and now with the New World Order, we are going to have to compete with the Third World. Want to guess what they make?
Pick up a copy of the book: "The World is Hot, Flat and Crowded" by Thomas Friedman. (sp?) Here's the Reader's Digest version: India and China -each- have 1.3 BILLION people, all looking to take your job, at 10 cents to your dollar. In the old days, they didn't have the educahttp://www.airlinepilotforums.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=1390866tion and couldn't get education. Now, due to the Internet, they are getting educated, and have the skills, and 10X the manpower. Look at all the manufacturing jobs the USA has already sold to China and India. It's just beginning, get ready for more jobs to be outsourced in the coming years. In 20 years our kids will look back at today and say, "Those were the good old days..." Anyways, Timbo, I went and looked up this book from Friedman, The World is Hot, Flat and Crowded, Why We Need a Green Revolution. The premise of what I read of his book (the free teaser parts online) takes me back to 15 years ago when I sat in a class at school and was required to read an article on overpopulation. I was like "oh my, this is bad! We're all going to die!" And it showed pictures of death from starvation. Then I got to the end and realized the nut of the article was nothing more than "thank God (or equivalent) for abortion, war, disease and cancer... otherwise we'd have a billion more people! So while we hate weapons, let's continue with abortions and not rush to cure stuff." Wow, talk about pulling up the ladder. But while I profoundly disagreed with the article I unfortunately had that little nugget of "what if" stuck with me way too long until I read through total replacement rates. You see if you need 2.0 children per woman to sustain a population then right now the U.S. sits at a stable 2.1 but a lot of Europe and Asia is sub 1.5 and some others like Brazil are sub 2.0. Singapore is less than 1 btw. Some Muslim countries are 2+ or 3+ and some African locations are 5+ but at the same time I've read elsewhere that 2.0 is not a replacement rate for them and theirs is higher. https://www.cia.gov/library/publicat...rint_2127.html I think there is a bit of hysteria sometimes with population related stuff, in fact, Russia with a 1.6 total fertility rate was actively encouraging sex and procreation. Vladimir Putin demands Russians have more sex to halt declining population | Mail Online Ya'll feel free to volunteer your services. As to Global Warmi... Climate Change and what have you, it kind of reminds me of George Carlin's joke "if we evolved from monkey and apes why do we still have monkeys and apes?" Or "what temperature is the earth supposed to be?" I actually had an interaction with a customer today who wanted to know if it was bumpy because the weather patterns have changed over the past few decades.... ? Yes, decades ago there was no turbulence. But more importantly, what about our jobs? Will they go overseas to find pilots? We already do with JVs but push that aside. I think the industry will go looking for pilots overseas when that's the cheaper option. I don't think it's there yet because there are not too many foreigners who if qualified to fly in the States are going to pass up probably higher paying jobs elsewhere. After all, we have Americans going overseas right now to fly because it's more lucrative. Thus still cheaper to use the plethora of American pilots. But one day there could be a shortage and that's why pay doesn't necessarily have to go up for this to be a lucrative job again. Because if you define lucrative as the benefits outweighing the cost, then keep in mind there are not a lot of $100K jobs out there. So shooting up the pilot shortage ladder to hold a line on the ER at 27 making $110,000 a year is lucrative and that will attract pilots. Of course watch the entry barriers like fuel and minimum hours to see how that plays out, it could make going overseas a cheaper option. BTW, I saw a good documentary Video: Made In The USA | Watch America Revealed Online | PBS Video on American manufacturing and how it's just different and imports vs exports doesn't tell the whole story. |

[QUOTE=forgot to bid;1391191]Understood,
http://www.airliners.net/photos/small/2/0/3/0209302.jpg /QUOTE] I hAve a couple thousand hrs in those type, we don't land on the nose wheel, normally. In that pic, that's where I would begin the flare to keep the nose off the grnd until touch-down. Should lose about 15kts at idle and MLG touch a little beyond initial NW flare point. 10kts headwind. |
