So reserve guarantee is ALV - 2 hours. But it cannot be less than 72 hours and cannot be greater than 80.

23.A.2. ―Average line valu (ALV) means a number of hours established by the Company between 72 and 84 hours (inclusive) that is the projected average of all regular line values, for a position, for a bid period.

So min ALV is 72 hours and max is 84. Reserve guarantee is not 70-82 hours but instead has it's floor and cap limits of 72-80 hours.

23.S.2.a.1): A reserve pilot will not be assigned a rotation that will cause his credit to exceed the ALV plus 15 hours.

23.S.2.d.: A reserve pilot will not be required to remain on call after his accumulated credit equals or exceeds his reserve guarantee.

The best summary here is from the December Crew Planning news:

MAX RESERVE AND RESERVE FULL
Beginning with the December bid period, PWA Section 23 S.2.a.1 becomes effective. Previously, a reserve pilot would not be assigned a rotation that would cause his credit to exceed the ALV. The new language will allow a pilot with whose accumulated monthly block and credit is below the reserve guarantee to be assigned a rotation as long as it does not cause his credit to exceed the ALV plus 15 hours.

Also in the December bid period, Section 23 S.2.d. becomes effective. This states a pilot will not be required to remain on call after his accumulated credit equals or exceeds his reserve guarantee. However, Crew Scheduling will attempt to contact a pilot who is on a reserve on-call day the last day of the current bid period to advise him of an assignment to a rotation or short call if on a reserve on-call day the first day of the next bid period.

If the ALV is 80, guarantee is 78, and youre at 77 hours with 4 days left on reserve which system would you rather have, the old or new one?

I thought that might be the case after seeing the following at the bottom of next month's schedule: "HOTELNAME 404--XX-X-XX" (Xs = numbers I did not post here). So I called the hotel and they do not have a reservation under my name, and that number wasn't a confirmation number.

The ability of the company to take a reserve pilot just shy of being full and flying him 14:59 above the ALV is indeed a concession. I just don't think it is that big of a deal and not worth all the angst it is given. Also, other parts of reserve have been improved.

If you guys want to complain, lets talk about 30 day months in the summer. This basically gives the company a 3.33 % productivity increase from all Pilots - lineholders and reserves. ALV + 15 will only affect a small portion of reserve pilots.

Yes, it will suck if you are hosed on reserve, but guys were randomly getting hosed on reserves since Orville and Wilbur first flipped a coin and Wilbur got a line and Orville got reserve (Ironically Orville actually got the first flight on the next attempt) this is not new to our new reserve system.

Bottom Line:

ALV +15 is a concession but reducing the busiest months of the year to 30 day bid periods is huge.

Most of flightline's stuff is obsolete and is no longer updated or fixed after sabre bought them... their customer service and information about their products is abyssmal. Trying to find out what the software does or can do? If someone doesn't show you, you won't find squat for info/help.

While I don't really use any of the FDS stuff, it looks like they're transitioning to a web based service.

Anyone have any more details?

If you have a week of vacation which system would you rather have? In your example you would have already been full at 55:15 and never would have made it to 77 without a YS.

See how easy it is to pick one little piece of the contract to prove a point.

Here's another good one for you: 2 day RSV GS is now worth a min of 9 hours vs the old way of 4 hours - thanks to the ADG. RSVs average 8% more pay BEFORE you factor in the new rates. RSV has changed, some things are better and some are definitely worse. The group as a whole decided the entire package was better as a whole and so here we are.

The point is it doesn't really matter until we have our next opportunity to change RSV rules. There are tons of things that need to be improved upon, but agonizing each and every negative while largely ignoring the positives is not productive.

Exactly. It's not about what they will most likely do, it's about what they can do. That's why it's called a contract.

Would you negotiate for something you never intended to use? And ALPA is like "I doubt they will ever use that, so sure, they can have it".

I have said it before. Might, should, may, probably, best attempt and phrases like this have no place in a contract. They create loopholes.

Pilots who can not hold a line typically do not have the seniority to hold vacation over the summer, or holiday season.
