So we'd stop asking for a staple of people already hired here. :D

Haha, the bolded part certainly isn't true. And therein lies the answer to your question. :o
Not complaining or questioning any decisions. |

And so there wouldn't be any morning-after awkwardness when we were pimped to the likes of Trans States! :p

Had heard DL was going to ramp up flights out of LAX this summer & fall, now you can see them on travelnet, interesting stuff. Not sure how long they've been there, maybe old news is old. If you look at LAX-SFO on, say, Sept 6, they're operating an hourly shuttle from 7am to 9pm for 14 flights total, up from 11 now. On LAX-SEA they go to 5x a day vs 3x now. LAX-MCI 2x vs 1x now. LAX-OAK 7x up from 4x now. LAX-SJC 5x daily is new service, it's currently all Horizon Q400s. LAX-SMF 5x from 4x now. LAX-PHX 5x from 4x now. LAX-GEG 1x, new service.
Aaand now the other shoe drops: all that new service is done with - you guessed it - Jumbo RJs (CR7, CR9, E70, E75). Good thing they recently got 70 more, otherwise their only alternative to Alaska would be mainline and your vampire LAX pilots would be forced to do something other than redeyes. Oww, the sunlight, it burns! :D Kidding aside, while right now it's just one form of outsourcing replacing another, this does represent another step towards competing with Alaska on the west coast. Hopefully it grows to the point that mainline eventually gets some of that sweet, laidback west coast flying. ;) Edit: I was actually wrong. 1 of the LAX-SEA flights is an A320. So there's that! |

Heard a really oddball rumor from my Dal Mx buddy about 717s finding their way to LA
I can not imagine anyone knows much about the 717, but it has wings so anything is possible! Less Eskimo the better! ( Cranky Eskimos as of late when we want to use our gates at T6. ACS agents say things are getting testy between the partners, who wudda thunkit!!) |

Two major things that I've been told by my reps that stands out,
1.) C2012 marked a significant reverse of flying back to mainline with the 88 717s and drastic reduction in 50 seaters with hard caps on all RJs. 2.) We, the pilot group, weren't able to secure as high pay raises, but we were able to some major protections against JVs and Codeshare agreements that protected pilot jobs at DAL. We always sign a LOA or settle a grievance or create a new contract section that allows what management wants. And then we justify it and sell it to the membership by saying it puts super airtight strict carved in stone limits on something that might possibly occur in the distant future. With a slam dunk super colossal 3 year measuring period of metrics that nobody understands or can monitor and then 1 year to correct any imbalance. That'll teach 'em. Be it RJ or widebody, domestic or international, if management wants to put our code on it or sell tickets on it or share revenue on it, then Moak and his disciples in DALPA will find a way. That is his history and there is no sign he plans to change strategy any time soon. |

I would be pretty surprised by that - there is a reason that no one flies DC9/717s west of Denver. I believe there are driftdown requirements that can't be met by that type of airplane. We had this problem at a previous airline.
