[QUOTE=Avgwhitemale;1430001]I just received an email from two of my 2010 classmates. Both were hired by UAL. One is at Indoc and the other is getting ready to start. That makes 6 guys from my class who left DAL. 2 - UAL 2 - FDX and 2 - SWA
Wow....[/
My apologies as I completely misinterpreted this post as being a very recent occurence. When I was a new hire we had a guy in another class leave for SWA and it was unprecedented back then as DAL was on the Forbes list of best company's to work for. We also had furloughees in the early 90's who got hired at FDX and UPS who subsequently quit those jobs to get recalled at DAL in 1996. Look how that decision has turned out for them.

It varies by day and by category.
As a general rule --- 10 AM give or take an hour.

DALAD,

It was unprecedented in the 90s but that precedent had been set just after 9-11. I was hired in early 2000 and know 5 people from my time-frame who quit DAL for other opportunities - actually 6 who left but 1 returned:

3 left to fly corporate.

2 left for FDX and one since quit FDX to return to DAL for personal reasons.

1 left to go to JetBlu.

The days of DAL being the "Dream career" are gone. For those who have been in CAPT seats during the current stagnation it is probably not too bad, but for the current 15 year, possibly looking at 20 year FO - not so much.

It is still a good job but but it will never be the same. How many post 9-11 hires have Cessnas or Pipers compared to DAL Pilots in the 1980s or 1990s? It seems many DAL Pilots spend more time working on their part time jobs or "Plan B" than with their "toys."

DAL today is not the DAL of old.

UAL orders 787-10's and we continue to lag in WR aircraft!

Hmm I am pretty sure it is still a dream career to the people still duking it out at multiple stagnant regionals. We can all dream of being in your position someday...

Lately on the 7ER in NYC they haven't been assigning them until the last minute. It's been after 2pm the last few days. Would be nice to get more of a heads up for the guys getting SCs.

Depends on where you live. As a 2010 new hire, they at best have 250 pilots under them on the list. If I lived in ORD, DEN, IAH or MIA I could justify jumping off the DAL ship and going to UAL.

Agreed... And how many at other airlines live near ATL, NYC, SEA, LAX, DTW, and SLC that would still be willing to make the switch to DAL if given the opporttunity?

Nobody saved the company from BK, and no union could save a company from BK... If I'm wrong please show me a good example.

Poor management leads to bankruptcy, keep your blame in the right place.
Neither independent unions mentioned facilitated outsourcing like DALPA. We are trailblazers in that dept. We also had a nice PRP program just to twist the knife. You are wrong about non-DCI during the time-frame. I am speaking of 01-06...Com-air and ASA were both wholly owned ALPA groups and doubled their size respectively. Direct job replacements under one parent company. It was not a loss for ALPA at all, which takes us back to the original point made by Bar, is ALPA has allowed MGT to divide us and I see no way for ALPA to remedy it when they still benefit either way.

As far as BK, good MGT is needed sure but bad MGT was facilitated by ALPA rather than sticking to the contract. Rinse and repeat, same today regarding NRT slots. I expect better from the organization that represents my group.
