I wonder how many forum participants can honestly say they have flown over long ocean routes using a sextant for navigation. We are dwindling in numbers. Makes me wonder what will happen when the GPS system goes down.

Umm how many airlines stock a spare sextant in the cockpit? Do you carry one in your flight kit?

Give me a MA-2 along with some H.O. 249s and and a current air almanac and I might still be able to get you within 2 miles of where you should be. (Please, no turns for 12 minutes at night!):D

Which one's Pollux? Oh, forget it--give me a GPS.

The Call In Honest policy is to be used only a few times in a pilot's career, and only after a well planned commute goes to pot, which this summer, was a weekly occurrence. Hardly a free ticket to work, and only used at the company's discretion. You are still on your own as a commuter.

I've never had a problem when calling in honest. CS has always been very accommodating getting me to base with no issues. In fact earlier this month the first two morning flights were cancelled the night prior, I called them that night and they booked me PS right then!

Also, maybe the flows will bring us guys who don't just read the printed materials and rubber stamp this stuff through base on propaganda. Less bobble heads.

FYI - hockey is not former Compass.

Well said. I agree.
The demographics of this pilot group are about to change and I don't think we will ever sell out scope again.

Our Navigators were happy to show us how they plotted a 3-star fix or a sun line and how to use the sextant. That was so long ago that now I probably couldn't even follow the arc to Arcturus, let alone speed on to Spica. ;)
