In my opinion the new policy "punishes the innocent to protect the guilty".

Agree completely. And, one of the unintended consequences is that guys flying sick will make their flying buddy sick and the numbers increase, not decrease.

I, for one, don't want a guy hacking and wheezing 3 feet away from me in the Petri dish that is the 73 cockpit.

The only bulwark we have with language that pathetic is the sheer number of inquiries. Its hard for them to come after all of us at once. But they can come after any of us for any reason any time they want. And we gave them that ability through blind trust and that was a mistake. Pilots will fly sick because of this policy. We're accepting some level of intimidation and pilot pushing with unilateral pro company contractual sophistry, perhaps because we were naive or perhaps because we thought it would help monetize something else by reducing over all sick calls and subsequent staffing plans and hoping we get a cut of that. If you have something that can be easily documented, you're bulletproof. For many pilots who just don't feel well however, they will be bullied into flying sick. Just not super duper sick. When pilots worry more about getting an "ops check good, could not duplicate" from a company doctor, they will fly sick. Guaranteed.

You do realize that they could do the EXACT same thing under the old contract, right? So why would anymore pilots fly sick under this policy? And if you call in sick, & can't verify do you get punished? I haven't heard of anyone being disciplined. You simply don't get your time verified. And now you get 100 hours of unverified time. Under the old contract the company could verify ANY sick leave usage.

I think people are blowing this entire thing out of proportion.

I believe what I'm seeing a few posts up is the aftermath from a post that was pulled down. I believe that I heard the rumor in question a month ago and have repeated it exactly ZERO times. Also have had the occasion to talk to the subject and found them friendly and knowledgeable. It would be a person of very little quality that would post such a thing here.

In well over 20 years I was never called questioning the veracity of a sick call.

As I type this I am at home recovering from surgery. Prior to the surgery I called my Chief Pilot and discussed the upcoming surgery, told him the date it was scheduled and the lengthy period of recovery. In short; it was fully disclosed ahead of time and no surprise.

But under the new sick leave program I got a call roughly 15 days after my first day out. "...we're calling everyone, it's the new policy..."

Maybe it's because I'm a former military officer, but I don't like it one bit.

I tend to be naive and trusting. I try to do a good job, genuinely. I've never considered myself to be one of the few "problem children" within the pilot group. With that one phone call Flight Operations squandered a lot of goodwill.

Hey Aaron Hernandez can I get an autograph? Don't worry, I don't believe all the things they're saying about you in the news!

It's amazing it took you 20 years to figure out you are just a number in a huge system run by accountants and attorneys.

I'm not sure I follow....

From the last bid posting 19JUL13:

IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE PILOT AGREEMENT, THE FOLLOWING
SURPLUSES ARE POSTED.
NO SURPLUSES AVAILABLE WITH THIS POSTING
From the last bid award:

NO DISPLACEMENTS FOR THIS AWARD
VACANCY/SURPLUS AWARD REPORT
REINSTATEMENTS TEXT
AS OF 15:05:03 30JUL2013
AWARD DATE: 30JUL13
CONVERSION WINDOW: 01AUG13-31JAN14
From the Sept. Crew Resources Newsletter:

THE JULY AE
The July AE award was posted on July 30. There were 51 AEs, 0 MDs, 0 VDs and 7 reinstatements. Twenty-eight of the 65 DTW-717-B posted positions were filled. The purpose of the July AE was to continue the flow of pilots through 717 training. With the exception of DC9 pilots, many of whom will remain on the DC9 though January 2014, we will have exhausted our current supply of 717 trainees by November. Unfilled positions from the July AE will be filled by furlough bypass and new hire pilots.
We plan to post the next AE in late August or early September with Captain and First Officer vacancies on the ATL and DTW 717, in addition to 73N positions, as we prepare for the 737-900 deliveries. At this time, we have not determined which 73N categories will see vacancies. We will work with Network Planning over the next few months as they develop a more detailed 2014 schedule.
The summer of 2014 will see 10 less 757 aircraft in service compared to summer 2013. As a result, we may surplus 7ER pilots on the next bid, particularly on the First Officer side. However, we expect the surpluses, if needed, to be more than offset by 717 and 73N Captain vacancies.
At this time, we have not determined which categories may see displacements.
Italics added by me- in other words maybe/mabye not,
Underline - still could see vacancies awarded

Don't worry, there will be more 7ER displacements on the next bid. :)
