I see where Hawaiian is operating a 767 LAX to LIH and KOA next summer. More HA codeshare in our future? Either way, it's going to kill yields on those routes.

One bad thing I just read is that delta pilot medical just went up $936 a year for a family.
Thanks, Barry. |
I know there's another thread somewhere about the Alaska/Delta love-affair being over, but thought this was interesting enough to post in the L&G 'bout Delta thread.

I got an email today from them saying the meeting was extended another day, into today... how do you know he got recalled already? I thought they were still deciding from the email I just read.
(ok, just got the vote result email too.) As to the Why, from the letter I got: Since the three of us assumed office in March, we, along with a number of other elected MEC representatives, have expressed concern over several events that have taken place during the current MEC chairman’s term in office. To be clear, we are not talking about any improprieties. At issue are a leadership style and a consistent pattern of conduct that many of us feel created a contentious atmosphere within the administration that is not conducive to effectively and efficiently getting the work of the Delta pilots accomplished. Most recently, the MEC chairman fired four ALPA volunteers (three committee chairmen and his own executive administrator). The work being conducted by these seasoned volunteers was crucial to our ongoing efforts. While none of the pilots doing ALPA work are irreplaceable, some have skills and an institutional knowledge that certainly make them harder to replace than others. We intend to investigate why these experienced pilots were removed from their positions without adequate notice to the MEC and with no apparent preparation of replacements or prior planning. You elected us to make the hard choices, not the safe choices, which in this case would be to ignore the problem and hope it goes away, or just live with the dysfunction. We will approach this meeting with open minds, but maintenance of the status quo is not acceptable. We are committed to helping to ensure that the MEC Administration operates with high functionality and with the highest level of professionalism. You will likely read updates from other councils that go into detail of their take on the upcoming special meeting and events leading up to it. It is important to keep in mind that your elected reps work with these other representatives in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for the Delta pilots. We will not, and should not, make assumptions on their motivations and opinions. We also realize that each member of the MEC Administration has a long history of hard work directly benefiting the Delta pilots. It would be equally wrong of us to disparage any of them, or any Delta pilot, in a communication to you. Our goal is to have a well-functioning MEC going forward. Whatever the outcome, it will be the decision of the MEC as a whole, and we will present it that way. In the end, the meeting will ultimately allow the MEC as a body to determine its next course of action, and we are confident the Delta pilot group will come out stronger on the other side of the process. |
.... too speculative, will wait to hear what really happened...

As this is all publicly disseminated info and must be publicly filed, ergo not protected secret stuff, and as hiding political shenanigans by keeping votes etc secret is completely wrong,
From the results email from DALPA: 1. Agenda Item 13-05 S: Recall of the MEC Treasurer Bren Fries – failed. 2. Agenda Item 13-06 S: Recall of the MEC Chairman Kingsley Roberts – passed in roll call vote. 3. Agenda Item 13-07 S: Recall of the MEC Secretary Kevin Guilfoyle – failed. 4. Agenda Item 13-08 S: Recall of the MEC Vice Chairman Jim Van Sickle – failed. MEC Vice Chairman Jim Van Sickle becomes interim MEC chairman, effective immediately, until the MEC elects a new MEC chairman, which must occur within 60 days. The process to fill the position will be held in accordance with the ALPA Constitution and By-Laws and the Delta MEC Policy Manual. Meeting highlights will be available on the Delta MEC website Communications Committee page, Delta Pilots > Public , soon. Full minutes will also be available on the website after MEC review and approval at the next regular meeting. ===================== I'm of course bummed that full minutes aren't available now, and not until scrubbed by the MEC sometime in the future. We'll have to rely on an insider to tell us what really happened, and I'd bet everyone will be toeing the party line precisely now that they've seen the axe get bloody. ACL or anyone else there? |
