I'm no expert on what numbers go into the manning formula, if it's based on block hours in category, there should be no change regardless of how many hours each pilot picks up, right? BUT...if there is a component in the formula that measures reserve utilization, well, that will only cut manning.

If a bunch of guys are flying 124 hours by swapping their 29-32hr. trips for two 62 hr. trips, there won't be as much open time to be covered by reserves, (roughly half as much) so they won't be flying nearly as much, not that they fly all that much anyway. Most don't fly at all from what I've been told.

A couple years ago I had three F/O's in a row who had not flown a trip in:

7mo., 9mo. and 12mo.!

They have not replaced -any- of the Captains who have retired this year, what does that tell you? Either we were over staffed a year ago, or they are shrinking the category, or both. But if guys are going to be allowed to fly 124/mo, well...

Bucking Bar or someone else smarted up on tablets:
Need some IT advice! I've got 10/11 yo kids. They are begging for "an ipad". They'll only use it to play games... but the dang Nintendo DS things are almost $200, so I'm thinking about it.
-- What's the tablet to get 10yo kids that will let them watch movie, play a game, and maybe actually do some school work?
My choices:
Nook (whatever their top of line is now. I have a Nook tablet and hundreds of books...)
Kindle Fire HD... seems an android tablet, but I'm already on the Nook book std.
iPad 2 ... we have iPhones but no other Apple computers, all microsoft.
iPad mini
android tablets like Samsung Galaxy Tab ... I'm leaning this way, but no experience with these.

Thanks anyone who can shed some light on my Xmas buying trip for tonight!!

How did they do that swap? That takes them far above the white slip limit.

We went downtown via bus; about 75 cents and 30 minutes but cabbed it back; about 15 dollars and 15 mins...

Concierge in lobby has a good list of different eats..

Too many to list; downtown will be cheaper, the main shopping mall on the strand will be closer.

200 m up the road from hotel is a convenience store, good for room treats or pilot drinks.

Bueno,

Did you check in 24hrs in advance and request an upgrade when you used delta.com?

The computer doesn't automatically put you on the upgrade list, you need to do it when you check in or go up to the agent and request to be put on the list.

Neither swap with the pot nor swap with friends (or PU) is limited by ALV +15. You're only limited by the FARs (and your seniority).

There is -no limit- to the amount of time you can pick up, if you do it via a swap with the pot.

That's why all the 1 and 2 day trips go senior in the initial bid run, but then they show up in the pot after the PCS runs.

I believe there is a Google Chrome notebook that does some basic things like what you just wrote. Also, Best Buy had a $300 Toshiba laptop that would be pretty ideal for an 11 year old, such as I have. The schools are all going to Apple Pages for kids assignments/homework, so you may want a computer that can do that. That is what my 11 yr.olds' school has..
The best part is that on Dec 22nd, a guy is finally doing Christmas shopping! I welcome you to the Man club of shopping, where waiting until at least the 23rd of Dec shows that you wont be held hostage to expectations of beating the Christmas rush. Chuck Norris probably wont likely go until Xmas eve....just saying.

None of the above. Nexus 7. Fast processor, good speakers, and high resolution makes it an amazing tablet. Plus, it starts at $229 for the 16 GB version.
