Airline Pilot Central Forums - Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?

I'll nominate myself for TOTD for this. I accept it. It is who I am. But, it's a funny story:

I commuted for a bit after I got hired, and to save on parking (this was pre-merger), my gf at the time (now wife) would drop me off and pick me up at DTW.

Well, she needed to stop by Meijer on the way home, it was cold as crap, so I kept on the double breasted sub commander jacket for the shopping spree (no hat, I'm not that much of a tool). I'd strolled around in my 9E uniform a few times before on the way home, so I figured no big deal, nobody cares nor ever mentioned it. I'm going home from work and that's my suit.

I kid you not, some retired Navy guy stood to attention and saluted me, then started telling me about his ship and asking me about my command.

Never again....

He was probably being sympathetic to you for somehow making O-5 and earning your wings but being such a slacker you didn't get a single ribbon.

Ha! Agreed on that point BTW, but the TOTD in question wasn't just lubing the gears at a party, he was very clearly trying to buff up his street cred and impress people. His "version" didn't save any more time than the other path you mentioned. All he had to have said was "I fly the little puddle jumper jets that NWA outsources to the smaller regional airlines". They all would have gotten it immediately, but he wanted more props than that so he buffed it up considerably and deliberately. And got called out on it big time, which sounds awesome!

Still though not quite as d baggy as regional pilots intentionally wearing their epaulets backwards to show their esprit de corps for flying "the 9" crj900. :mad:

swap with pot question. Reserve avail/req is 20 and 20 on the day I want to drop. If they won't allow it, would a PD work and turn around and pick up a trip on the days I have off earlier in the month?

If you are swapping day for day with trips (as long as your swap isn't creating or exacerbating a below coverage situation) you should get it approved. You can usually APD with less than 20/20 coverage (once a year). In either case you can pick up on days you had off earlier in the month regardless of staffing.

You can APD just one day of a trip, lets say day one of a 4 day, but can pick up on the last three days since they weren't APD'd.

Sorry. Drop a 4 day later in the month that has 20/20 coverage on the first day, and pick up a similar trip earlier in the month on off days.

Sherman did take it a little far I think but if you watch the replay, after the play was over he went up to Crabtree, patted him on the butt, said something we will never know (I'm guessing it was something like "nice try" or "better luck next time" or "not in my backyard") then Crabtree shoved him in the face. Whatever he said at that time I don't think it was a taunt but might have been taken that way. I think that's what set Sherman off for the rest of the night.

Any way, what ever happened, it's over and done with. I'm looking forward to the Super Bowl. Number one offense against the number one defense. Should be a great game! Oh, and even better, I have it off!:)
