Yes, I agree, the Ruthless Rye is also very good. It's a little harder to find in my local grocery store though, they don't seem to stock it on a regular basis like they do the Torpedo.

I was at the ABC Liquor store yesterday looking for something of authentic Irish heritage, like myself.

Did you know Guinness and Harp is now being brewed in....Nova Scotia! Read the back of the can!

So I passed over those, but then I spotted a reddish brown can of Guinness Red Harvest Stout, and it is still brewed in Dublin (according to the details on the back of the can) so I picked up a 4 pack of that, I'm saving it for Monday, going to try making some Black and Tans with that and the Smithwicks I also picked up.

 

Sweetwater 420 is my favorite IPA although it is not marketed as such. Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA is probably the best Double/Imperial IPA but be careful with that stuff. 9 percent beer is best enjoyed from a snifter, or after one you forget the third verse to whatever song you are playing. But they are very hoppy without the bitterness that many overly hopped (like Hophead) beers exhibit.

I have enjoyed IPA's since they first came on the scene. But now I am on a craft brew Larger kick. It is all about the balance. Does that mean I'm getting old?

 

I have to accept that I'm not the beer snob I thought I was. I too am a lager/pilsner, red, Black and Tan guy. I've tried all the IPAs and don't like any of them. So much so, I don't get what anyone likes about them. I guess I'm a beer wuss.

Murphy's Irish Stout from the real Capitol of Ireland, not that northern brewed unbalanced crap in a can, is what you thirst for. It is an amazing brew, so Stout, Creamy, and Smooth. You could not get into any more Irish if you were in the sack with all 3 Corr's sisters circa 1993.

 

Not in the least! 420 is a wonderful, well balanced beer. I went over to Lager Land about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. Having consumed many varieties, I am always impressed at how well made Sam Adams is. I know, not very adventurous... but consistently good and great from a cold tap. My favorite so far is Brooklyn Lager, which is available pretty much anywhere these days.

I don't often drink IPA's anymore, but when I do...

I occasionally like an IPA but not the super extra hoppy ones. The Ballast point Pale Ale just knocked the Stone Pale Ale out of my number 1 spot, try it when you get a chance. It Rocks, here is a description from the BP Website:

You, I and most Judges like balance. If you can look past the marketing to the product, there are a lot of well balanced beers out there. IPA's were mostly never intended to taste great, they were the answer to a lack of refrigeration before the technology existed. Most are very unbalanced and bitter.

Lambic, Belgium style, ales might be to your liking, although I find wheat beers to be the wrong kind of texture for my palate. Often fruit is used to increase the acidity ... Try Sweetwater Blue and let me know what you think. If it was marketed more technically, it would have more snob appeal. But it is marketed as a chick beer which has resulted in many who would appreciate it passing it over without consideration.

It is good beer. The wonderful thing about beer brewing is you can come up with so many good ideas and variations.

 

Bucking Bar is sooo right. Delta was a bit late to the game because they didn't want to get locked down with the iPad. At the industry mtg's, several airlines were peeved that Apple isn't open sourced so a company can't just make up their own app--they have pretty rigorous standards ( and we all know how good the airlines are at writing computer code). The FAA was forced to accept the iPad (or other tablet) because American made a stink about it. Now the pilots want these add on's and guess what? Technically the add-on's make the device a flight instrument. Requirements like 35degree viewing angles, HF studies and SARP's apply and the FAA has egg on their face and the pilots are saying "hey...I'm using it on my private plane". This week, we were talking to Volpe (FAA technical Center) and asking about SMGS and their studies on charting. The iPad is 60-70 degrees off center. Volpe never figured this; they thought the device or chart would be attached to the yoke or put on the slide out tray (Airbus). So...they're trying to figure out if they're against a device being used in SMGS ops. No studies have been accomplished. When asked about the Content Locker and accessing manuals during abnormal ops--no studies. They assumed everything was in HTML and not PDF's. The difference is enormous. PDF's require exact words and then every word will be presented. Type in Datalink, New York and nothing comes up. In HTML, it's more tolerant and smart and comes up like a google search. This is going to be a mess for awhile--but they'll get there (on the pilots backs-of course).

 

I like the weather in San Diego, and the ocean is nice but the wind is really light most of the time, and it's just too crowded for my taste.

I hate crowds, and I hate standing in line, and sitting in traffic. That's why I live in a small town in central FL, I don't have to stand in line for anything, ever, even at Starbucks, or worry about finding a parking space, anywhere, ever. It's really quiet, and that's how I like it. Some days I'm the only boat on the lake.

I'm going to go ride my bike now, not much traffic trying kill me, all the knuckle heads are out at the racetrack today watching the 12 hour Sebring Le Mans race.

Cali is (was) nice, I was born in Sacramento, but it's just too crowded for me any more.

And Scambo, on the IPA thing, it's the only beer I can 'taste'. I think I fried my taste buds and burnt out my nose at Leopolds in Mumbai. Ever since eating all that Indian food (and Mexican here) I can't taste or smell anything but a really hoppy beer. Everything else just taste's like water to me.

I like a beer that punches me in the mouth, so I can feel it, as well as taste it.

Kind of like my women...
