That same old school trade unionist would probably also be shocked that, 10 years later, we are still working for 18% less per hour, not adjusted for inflation. Some guys are going to do whatever they can, in accordance with the PWA and FAR's, to attempt to reduce that huge disparity in buying power/standard of living from 10 years ago. With realities such as 4-8-3-3 we obviously haven't figured how, even remotely, to work fewer hours without falling even further behind.

Having said that, I agree with tsquare in that no matter what we make there will always be a percentage who will keep up the same tactics to maximize pay instead of working less due to higher rates.

Purp...think a lot of these rumors are put out to elicit a certain type of behavior, what is sad is that individual states produce laws like this that should be common sense.

If we had 1.5/80 what do you think will happen to your ability to go over 80? Right now under greenslip rules there is a little equity in the assignment of greenslips.....it's not all seniority. What do you think will happen with 1.5 over 80, when all of the senior pilots are picking up flying under normal white slip rules? And there are all kinds of ways around the pick up limit. In addition to being a job killer, I think you would find if you are not senior enough to get a greenslip you won't be senior enough to go above 80 hours.

This is good news over all. And exactly part of the stratedgy I was hoping we would implement. This is a gut punch to HI and JB and their little partnership. However we are barely dipping a toe in compared to what we need to do with it being seasonal. The only good part about the great ER purge we've been seeing that's almost completely unwound the great 07-08 all points east build up is the freed up lift in a very flexibile airframe.

Actually you are incorrect. In a CBA the collective very much DOES have that right, directly and indirectly. We happen to work under a very productive CBA (irrespective of the company's massive fleet diversity plan, which is 100% on them and not us). But to say you have some sort of a "right" in a CBA to FAR only limits isn't correct.

CBA maximums drive staffing, QOL and pay issues for the entire pilot group. The current system is extremely generous in what it allows for flying a lot if that's what you want to do. But there is no inherent right to fly FAR max all the time, and that's something that will never happen here outside of some deep chapter 11 on the verge of chapter 7 scenario. The limits we have are there for a reason, and part of why you make what you make and can hold what you hold. Its also why most pilots here were hired whenever they were.

Be careful what you wish for, and realize the limits of what you try and demand.

Except for those benefiting from it, most pilots did not like Trip Parking. What you're proposing would be far more detrimental than that, or any of the other work rules that have gone bye-bye over the years. I MIGHT be able to get behind 1.5 over 80 (I was fnwa btw, as I assume you are on the 744) but it would have to come with a cap - not limited solely by FAR's. 80 is just too high of a premium trigger, and would incentivize far too many of us to help Delta reduce our headcount.

The GS system definitely favors seniority in category, but as others have mentioned on here, it is more affected by your bidding strategy. The senior guys get more GS's because they are more likely to be OFF when GS's are flowing. All other things equal, the junior guy has to get his G#1 before the senior guy gets G#2.

If a pilot chooses not to chase the bigger payrate for better seniority in-category, he benefits by having better bidding options and the ability to set himself up for more GS's. He also has the option to bid up a category for the higher payrate, but probably fewer pay hours in a given year... If you say we shouldn't limit ourselves at all, then option #2 gets pushed back even further. IMO, after seeing both ways of doing things, I don't want to go back to 1.5 over 80. The current system seems to un-stovepipe things a little bit more, creating more options for guys vertically throughout the list.

Nobody is telling you how much you can make. I'd argue that if you live in base and know how to game the system you could make more as a senior NB FO rather than sitting wherever you do on the whale. We have 73NB's making more than the A's they fly with. There are plenty of ways to skin the cat...

I wish we would get rid of it! and go back to the ALV limit we used to have..thanks alpa for giving that one away

In over 28 years I have never once flown a GS, and as a minimum 5hr. commuter, I doubt I ever will, but I do on occasion I do fly over the ALV. Why not have both? Why do we have to trade one for the other, isn't the $1Billion per year, in bankruptcy pay rates we are still giving to the company enough to satisfy them?
I absolutely agree. In no way would I want the GS to go away. I think both pay incentives can live happily together in Scambolandia.

I'm sure it gets entered into the cost matrix. My only point is we shouldn't have a system where some bases get benefits like that where others don't. I'm not advocating taking it away from anyone, and that wouldn't be legally possible anyway. But we need to insist on equal protection for equal work. You shouldn't get worse benefits to take care of a sick or dying loved one because you are in the wrong base when it happens.

I was referring to the pickup limit. I assume you're talking about RSV?

I don't want to get into this again, but there are now offsets that we didn't have pre-C2012 that will actually make you full earlier than the "good old days".

How many times have you been forced over ALV on reserve? How many months since C2012 has reserve guarantee been greater than 70?

It's not apples to apples.
