Are any of you guys having trouble getting a DH seat assigned on Travel Net, for a deviated deadhead? I always book mine as soon as I get the trip award, using the Company Business drop box, and it used to give you a seat assignment (row 42 or so!) and then you could immediately click 'change seat', get the seat map and pick your favorite open seat.
This week I've been trying to do it for next week's trip, as I've done in the past, but now it's not giving me a seat assignment at all, and no seat map.
Did the geniuses at Delta Tech change something in Travel Net, so we can no longer pick a seat? Do I have to actually check in for the flight first, 24hrs. prior?

Yes!! Two deadheads this weekend and both days I had trouble. First day I got stuck between mom and crying lap child and the other side was a stinky smoker. Ugh... Second flight I watched non revs from regional airlines get economy comfort while the big cheese and I got coach.

If management costed it out and felt we can do the flying the last thing they would do is merge the feed. It would be much simpler and cheaper to let the feed contracts expire and grow the mainline. No merger nightmares and you add a bunch of first year employees happy to be hired verses multiple airlines employees showing up slinging lawsuits left and right. It would look exactly like the ongoing 717 program at Delta!
There are two major issues with your plan. First if history prevails they are not going to accept a staple. It will go to arbitration. Second you have to be able to do that flying at a competitive rate to the rest of the industry. If not you lose that flying and some of your mainline flying as feed dries up. You then have a smaller airline and lots of furloughed pilots.

It sounds like we will see targeted cancellations at the regionals now. It will only get worse, and much worse before all the contracts sunset. As we add 717s, that helps dampen the problem. But when the 717 are all here, then we are right back in this mess, baring an order now for more similarly sized jets.

Thanks, I'll try again now, since my trip leaves in 6 days. They must have changed something though, because for the past 4 years, I've been able to book a good seat, both ways, 30 days (or more) out. So it's down to 14 days at the front, and after sign in for the back end now?
Actually it's been that way forever ... You just haven't gotten caught. Remind me, are you senior to me?

Another gap Delta would like to fill is a good 115-120-seat aircraft, slightly larger than the Boeing 717s that is currently taking over from AirTran. “The 737-700 is not economical and the -800 is too large,” Anderson says. One option could be the Bombardier C-Series and Delta has looked at the geared turbofan (GTF) engine in particular.
