It seems no airline can justify the whales. They are being retired as fast as airlines can park them. Keep in mind that Delta's 747-400's are among the very oldest flying. NW was the launch customer if I recall correctly.
I doubt this will happen but there might be a glimmer of hope. The jets being parked are leased. Perhaps were playing hardball on the lease rates. The value of the jets is scrap value only. The owners at best can part them out. Since Delta has not displaced pilots perhaps it's a ploy for lower lease rates. Still no one seems to want them worldwide and the economic numbers for parking them were compelling when given to the union.

These "early out" programs are nothing but crap to appease the troops. There will be no significant number of pilots that leave because of any program. The ones that do will only be leaving a month or two early anyway. Been there, seen this, got several expensive T shirts to prove it. We'll pay a lot for a Yugo. There should be no negotiations on this. If it is a good deal, the company would just offer it. What is there to negotiate? They want to mitigate a flush of training supposedly, right? What is there for us to do that could help in this arena? No... we are gonna pay something, and whatever it is, it's too much.

ER programs are way over hyped. If they only allow 747 CA's to take the program the effect on you will be maybe a percentage point above zero and that sliver of a benefit ends completely when the pilots let out early reach 65.

It has to be negotiated. The company can't unilaterally decide to go through the seniority list and pick pilots it wants to go early.

The ones being parked aren't the oldest. Additionally, I have yet to see UA parking whales. You know that thing where I say you're awful at data analysis? Yep... That again.

You asked the question. Sorry you find fault with the answer.

I took the last ER plan at age 62 and never looked back. I would have taken it at 60 if it had been offered. As has been discussed before, health insurance costs are a big issue before you are eligible for Medicare. I was able to go on my wife's insurance which made my choice easier. As an aside, I would have had to medically retire when I was 63.

Our network has that capacity. We are trying to squeeze KAL into a closer relationship to help us in our quest to over fly Japan.

The big deal about Pinnacle being authorized to do a deal with Delta management for Delta flying is that our MEC stood by and accepted the idea that Delta can negotiate flying with other pilot groups; meaning that we are no longer anything more than one of a handful of vendors who Delta may choose to do business with (or not). It shocks me that only a few Reps on the Delta MEC understand the strategic importance of being THE (meaning exclusive) pilots of Delta Air Lines.

So you're saying that they are offering it to select pilots on select 4 engine airplanes? Hell no. Sorry. That's wrong. Displace 'em, and train 'em.
