Also--where's MD on this? How about a clear, concise letter (absent the usual legalese and mealy wording) from him stating that we expect to make gains in return for helping solve the company's self-inflicted crisis. And if the company won't provide those gains for every pilot on the list, the company can wait until Section 6 to address the issue.
Nah, what am I thinking. That would require some leadership and resolve. |

I am simply smart enough to know that a growing airline does not experience a training cascade when retiring airplanes.

In fact international widebody hours are projected to be 4 percent higher this winter and at least that much higher for the summer. Plenty of room to absorb those pilots without a cascade. It's not higher math as quite a few others have also pointed out here. The block hours are not going away they are shifting to other fleets.

I have seen no position from the company so not sure how I am posting it. I guessed I missed the memo. Trust me on this, retiring 16 aircraft over a 24 to 36 month period will not even have the training department breathing hard let alone the chaos you predict.

PD,
I assure you I'm part of no "in crowd". My point was simply that I don't think we don't have some enormous unused leverage that some are purporting. An early out benefits us, the question is how much the company. The point some are making is they might not be in the bind some suppose and desperately need our help which we are supposedly giving them for nothing. Carl |

That's certainly true in your case man, you're an independent thinker. But PD's point about the other usual suspects is well taken. I don't have enough information to decide, but I'm definitely troubled when I see guys like Karnak, slowplay and the others dusted off. When that happens, it's generally because something's already been decided and the game of making reps and pilots think they're part of the process begins.

Exactly. It's in everyone's best interest to avoid displacements. What many here fail to realize when they claim that displacing 744 pilots will only affect 330/765/777 pilots is that those are vacancies that would otherwise have gone to a junior pilot, hence allowing upward movement across most of the seniority list. Why would we want to fight the company over this?

Sorry to hear you are parking 747s.
Out of curiosity, where are they currently based and where do they fly? |
