New hires trying to drop trips around Christmas....sheesh.

Guy comes on here asking a simple question about PDs and APDs around the holidays and you're giving him a hard time because he's a new hire?

Dude probably has a wife and kids he'd like to spend the holidays with just like the rest of us. I just got my first Christmas off after 8 years, but I'm still happy for anyone junior to me who manages to get the holidays off.

It's not a Fraternity and there's no rights of passage.. It's just a job. Good on him if he manages to get Christmas off....

If you are a new guy and really want it off, throw in an APD for the days you want. Your request will go before everyone else who doesn't want to use their APD. I always save mine up for Christmas just in case.

1. APD
2. PD
3. Swap with Pot
4. Swap board
5. Tell the kids Santa has to come early. :)

The first year I got Christmas off my kids were bummed because they had to wait until Christmas Day for all the goods. My 8 year old at the time said, "Dad can you just please go to work on Christmas?" Shows how little kids really care if you mix things up a bit to work with your schedule.

???? Why

With that reasoning we should be looking to expand ORD and CHS more than SEA.

It's important to the locals in SEA. That's why AS is "proudly all Boeing". I think we'd be foolish not to become "the biggest 787 operator out of SEA", which would help with gate acquisition and a new customs facility. We'd fly 330's and 350's out of SEA too, but I think the 787 has a lot of "intangible" qualities beyond price and performance.

Jmho..

I have never had any luck using an APD over Christmas even with good coverage. They always use the holiday exception. By the way, your last quote about your kids was pretty funny. I can definitely relate.

I was thinking about your post, and I agree it's not as simple as ignoring those issues. We ARE fighting Boeing very hard on the Exim bank, the end of which they're labeling "armageddon". We ARE fighting Alaska on their own turf.

This is all legitimate, of course. Boeing IS asking our government to use our own money to subsidize competitors, and Alaska made their bed this way. But maybe it doesn't play too well with part of the population. It would be silly not to be cognizant of these issues. Building up Seattle with Airbus products could play poorly. Which is ironic, considering Boeing itself has let Seattle down rather badly with their headquarters move, and assembly line decisions.

End of the day, however, I think the Seattle public will appreciate the competition, and the extra options.

Boeing is still the largest employer in SEA. They are almost twice the size of Microsoft the number two company. Just like were using a surface I bet there is a widebody Boeing in our future. Complete guess but 787's for the Pacific, 330-900's for the Atlantic and perhaps a small number of used 777's for near term 747 replacements.
