I like the way you think; however, some of the 254 in 2014 were planned to retire in 2015 (part of the 175). So 2x is unfortunately a rob Peter to pay Paul scenario.

oh right. Forgot about that thing. Let me recompute.

Well. Here is one and it comes from looking at the December 2013 seniority list btw and comparing it to December 2014.

There were 175 guys in 2013 slated to retire in the year 2015, now I only count 168.

For 2016, the scheduled retirements were 229 when you looked in Dec 13 and now it's 227.

I didn't pay attention to the retirement program but who went and when do they have to go?

The lower the price of crude, the more sense it makes to lock it in long term as there is more upside potential than downside. One only has to go back and look at swa when they were able fix their costs for many years.

If gas drops to $2 a gallon, I would consider locking in that price for the next couple
Of years if it were easy for the average consumer. Yeah, it could go to a buck and I lose, but it more likely to go back to $4...

Hopefully DAL's hedgers are better at it than me. Earlier this year, I locked in a great deal on heating oil - 500 gallons at 3.45/g for 20% down. Last year it hit $4+.

Price is now $2.87 delivered. I've seen as low as $2.69 and a few weeks it was in the $2.70-2.77 range. Even if it remains at $2.87, I managed to take a $300 loss.

Thanks guys. So much new stuff, so little gray matter to spare.

What's funny (to me at least) is we still use vernacular from when Crew Scheduling was in the pilot lounge and used color coded slips of paper to assign rotations.

Today a Green Slip is still a Green Slip. Does anyone remember when they used to do it that way?

Challenge: If anyone can find a picture of a Green, Yellow or White slip and post it I will give you this new car as soon as one of my fetching associates gets it washed.

But you more or less did what you wanted to do which was fix your costs through the winter. I basically did the same thing when I locked in on a rate in natural gas.

Hedges in the airline industry and not meant to really be a profit center, but a way level out fuel expenses going forward. Now, if I am Delta and I can "lock in" oil at 60 bucks a barrel, use some options to also participate if it drops further, I would be all over it. Worst case it gets to $40 a barrel which is not that huge of a drop. On the other hand, if it goes to $120 again, you can play the same sort of pricing games that LUV did for so many years.

Also, just because you show a hedging loss, that doesn't mean that is wasn't at least partially offset by cheaper prices at the pump.

Do you know what else is quaint? Sending your training letter in the U.S. mail! I have to be at training next week and there's no letter, it's probably lost, or mixed up over the Thanksgiving holiday, and I have to leave town tomorrow. So far, I've managed to pull up the sim schedule, read the FOM training section, and booked my flights, but I have no idea what hotel I'm staying at because it's so super secret that it's not on Icrew, but I'll bet it's in the letter! I've called and emailed the planner, going to try again, but may just end up getting on a hotel van and looking for room at the inn...

Me looking at the mailbox today...

Hah! Real geezers remember the days before Green Slips. If necessary, crew sked called out a "dual pool" guy and he was paid the monthly guarantee.
No computers or printers either -- flight plans & wx came in on the teletype.
