One quality of life contract improvement that should cost us almost nil would be travel during an awarded vacation period. How about one round trip PS for you and eligible primary pass members traveling with you. Book it within 1 month of travel and if Y class is available, you get it.

This crap of working for an airline with inaccessible pass travel needs to be addressed. It would be nice to travel on my own airline with my family once a year without having to pay for a 75% ticket.

The problem is we would probably negotiate it for all the employees like profit sharing or crew meals (remember what those were).

A few years ago I asked about retirees being able to use a S2 and seniority date once a year for a vacation. I was bashed on this forum for even suggesting such a thing as it would take seats away from someone trying to get to work. I guess if your still an active employee it is ok. Something for those of you retiring soon to think about.

Maybe there should be a "get to work" status as well. Not fun watching a bunch of college aged dependents filling up the seats on an rj while you're scrambling with plan B.

How? Contractually? What are you willing to give up for that:D

The company approached us to stop building 5 day trips.

Not exactly true. I bid a min sked and usually get 3 fives but one of them that carries into the next month. Depending on what is needed to meet the min hours, the last 5 day will adjust as necessary and carry the rest of the hours into the next month. As I said before, I can work 2 weeks of vacation into 3 weeks if not 4 weeks off with 5 day trips as well.

Does the company need our permission not to build 5 day trips? If they approached us, what did they want in return?

From the latest company info, it sounds like 5 day trips help to limit credit. Now sick calls could be a player as this could drive up total sick time.

I don't have time to look it up but I think we gave that up with the switch to a 5:15 daily average.

What we need is a minimum day...... Just changing our ADC to a minimum day would be a big gain for us. But if we could negotiate a 5:30+ minimum day that would be awesome.

There is no way it will NOT drive up total sick time usage, only because if you have more 5 day trips, you'll miss more 'days' of flying, even for a one day sickness, such as a root canal.

If we had nothing but one day trips, you would only have to be out sick one day at a time, but the longer you make the trips, the more days you'll have to miss, even for a minor, one day type illness.

International 12 day trips require you to drop all 12 days, even for a one day illness.

Now...you can add in the probability that being out on the road vs. home in your own bed, more days in a row (5 days gone, instead of 3 or 4 days at a time) could also cause more fatigue, more stress on your body, and exposes you to more germs while you are run down, from existing for 5 days on a sub-optimal diet of Holiday Inn vending machine food, etc.

Can you post a few of those. They must have short duty days. A 3 day trip with 4 duty periods would require 31.5 hours of rest periods. A typical 3 day trip would only have 48 to 55 hours TAFB. The duty periods would have to average under 6 hours.

Not sure how well this will come out, but there you go. 2-5 so 4 days and 5 duty periods.
