Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Wow, what a game but a historically bad call by Seattle on the 1 yd line!!!
So here's why I was really rooting against the Seahawks (sorry Denny!)
I did a Seahawks charter last year, preseason, probably week 2. Middle of a 4 or 5 day, laying over downtown Seattle. First off SEA ops calls me in my room midmorning, asking me if we could meet with Charter coord like an hour and a half before push! I politely decline and tell them we'll be there about an hour before and it would be fine. So we meet and they proceed to tell me EVERYTHING the Seahawks and Coach Carroll want and don't want! No PA's, no "Go Seahawks", no autographs etc (which is fine) but then they tell me that Coach Carroll thinks that "once everyone is one, we should leave", so could we please leave at least 20 minutes early? Yeah, you might say I was growing weary of this flight already.
But okay, so we preflight and do our best to leave early etc. Now I'm a big NFL fan so I want to see the team as they come on the airplane. I'm standing in the cockpit door as they board and Coach Carroll is the first guy on, sitting in seat 1A. He walks by me with his head down, saying nothing to me or the F/A. The rest of the team, coaches, and staff board and many say Hi or at least make eye contact.
Sure enough, we push 20 early and fly down to SAN. On climbout, F/A calls and says Coach C wants to know if that's Mt Rainier on the left. I was this close to saying, "tell Coach Carroll that I'm not supposed to make any announcements" (petty I know!)
So we land in SAN, gate in 20 early, and you know I'm in the door as the team deplanes. Sure enough, Carroll is the first one off and does the same thing, head down, says nothing like "nice flight, thanks for getting us hear early" NOTHING. Again, the rest of the guys deplane and many make nice comments to me and the crew.
As you can tell, it really rubbed me the wrong way and I have been rooting against him and his team ever since. Would it have been so difficult to just acknowledge me and say a quick word or two? And no, I don't think he was immersed in his thoughts as it was early preseason and they didn't play until the next day.
Rant over, but told this story twice at the game party tonight.

You could have least made a PA to reassert that you were a DAL pilot and were not gone to take crap from anyone - especially an organization that pays to use the jet. Seriously dude, you're the tail wagging the dog.

1310 is correct but your recall dates are slightly off. Besides the 250 FMII guys the last furlough group was Jan 03 and the recalls started in July 04. I know because I was in the very last group of guys furloughed.
Funny story (kind of). The first furlough recall group was July 04. I believe all those guys went into the 737-200. I bypassed until August correctly thinking I would busting my butt every July for the next 5-10 years.
In July there was an AE for 737-800s that left a lot of FO seats unfilled because most of the 737-200 were staying put thinking next month there would be 45 more guys being recalled and put in below them.
Well the August class went almost 100% to the 737-800s and instead of being at the bottom of the 737-200 list (had I went back in July) I instantly had about 40 guys below me on the 737-800.
You can bet a bunch of guys on the 737-200 were not happy.
Sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

I agree that the current circumstances at DL are completely different than 15 yrs ago. And to think that after 9/11, RJ's, BK, $150/bbl oil, age 65, economic collapse and merger mania...I was still only furloughed for 5 months..is pretty good. I've flown with a lot of Captains who we're furloughed under Ron Allen's "leadership 7.5", had the B-scale and sat sideways for 7-10 yrs in a 727..plus seeing guys back after 10 yrs keeps things in perspective!
I can only hope the future is gonna be much smoother for our new DL bubbas going forward..

Now..if we can just get that SLC717 category going!

I think that's a "Tide Roll"!
Roll her in flower and look for the wet spot...
Gots to love a Big Girl though, keeps you warm in the winter, gives you shade in the summer, and you KNOW she swallows!

Good Lord Timbo, you know we were all thinkin' it but...
Yeah I'm guessing that guy is going to have nightmares about that for a while Timbo!
Regardless of what you think of Seattle I thought this was a classy gesture after a devastating last second loss.

If I am not mistaken Sherman graduated from Stanford with a really good GPA after growing up in South Central. The dude is very smart.
Guys like him are hated... except by the team he plays on. Those people will love it and I guarantee 31 teams would take him in a heartbeat and hope his bravado comes with him. I think what he does is multifaceted. Its for advantage on the field, it gives him leadership position with his team and hey, everyone knows his name, no? He now has advertising value and he's just a DB, usually only QBs get that stuff. He stands out. He gets paid.
Now I don't think it's as upsetting to other players as people might think either. Not to long ago I was coming out of MOB and low and behold who walks on the plane but my man, Nick Fairley. He and Cam, and a bag full of money, got Auburn that BCS NC and he of course plays for the Lions. Cam had just been in that rollover accident that day and we were talking about that when I asked if they talk a lot? He said everyday. So I asked him, a few months prior everyone on sports talk had gone bonkers over Cam calling Suh "donkey kong" over and over. How could he taunt Suh? WTH was that? They went ballistic on the radio. I asked Fairley if that was his doing and he said, yeah, Cam called and asked him what he calls Suh, he said donkey kong. So Cam ran with it. I doubt Suh was mad at all.

Bingo. I really want and would like to believe that the current financial state of affairs and forecasts for the airlines will continue for many, many years, but this industry of ours is a cyclical and fickle b!tch. I wouldn't want to be an employee on the receiving end of a fix for that kind of debt when she turns south again. Hopefully they will have had time to get it under control before that ever happens. Actually, I hope it never happens.
