PD vs APD

Have an early report on Apr 5th that I'm trying to get out of as we'll be getting back from vacation late the previous evening. Right now, reserve coverage is good, 21 available and 18 required. I'm fairly certain that if I use a regular PD for the first PCS run, the reserve coverage will not be adequate by the time they get down to my seniority level, and the PD will be denied. At that point burning my APD does me no good, because it's Easter, so it'll still get denied.

I'm considering just going straight to the nuclear option and using the APD, because they're processed before PDs, and reserve coverage would likely still be adequate. However, per the letter of the contract, they could deny the ADP simply for touching the easter holiday, even if there were 100 reserves available and only 1 required. So here's my question to the guys who've been around a while: have you ever had an APD granted on one of the listed holidays? I.E., in practice do they actually look at the reserve coverage, or just automatically deny anything that falls in that 2 days prior / 1 day after window?

Freaking brilliant.

Wow, spot on. I just flew with one of those political dudes. People: if you find yourself yelling in the cockpit about politics, maybe its time to get your head examined.

Worked for me to drop a Christmas trip--I'm a Jun 14 hire.

It appears [I don't really know] that they run the APDs without regard to the Holiday when the reserve coverage is above required--thus, if you get in front of the line to drop (via burning the APD), the fact that it's a Holiday won't restrict the outcome. Once the coverage goes below the required, that's when the 25% logic kicks in--including the part where it can be denied outright if it includes a Holiday. Also, when I was asking this question in Nov (re my Dec plans), some of the old heads pointed out that sometimes you can get a Holiday APD even below the required--apparently there's some discretion on whether that gets applied or not.

If it's worth burning the APD to you, and you're pretty sure you won't get it via PD or swap board--then I suspect the APD will work.

I got an APD allowed on Dec 26th, which would fall in that holiday window. I was just dropping a reserve day but it uses the same rules.

Thanks Jughead and IAFlyer. I put in the APD, we'll see what happens. It's worth it to me because I'm flying my Pacer in the Bahamas during the vacation and would have to leave it in Florida and come back to get it if I don't get the trip off. I'd rather just fly it back to MN then, maybe after a detour to Timbo's place :)

If only there were some pilots around here to fly that thing home for you. of course, we'd have to visit Timbo's to get some fortitude before making the long journey north...

I got a 5 day trip in April that begins 1 May (last day of the bid month) with the remaining 4 days in the following bid month. Will I be able to dump that trip via PCS on the 20th (assuming reserve coverage on 1 May is sufficient) or do I have to wait until PBS results for May are published and they can determine that reserve coverage is adequate for the entire 5 day?

And better yet, someone just picked it up off the swap board! :-)

Thailand’s military government warned women on Monday against posting photos of the lower half of their breasts – a current social media trend – saying their actions could violate the country’s computer crime laws.

Thailand’s Computer Crimes Act 2007 bans material that causes “damage to the country’s security or causes public panic” or “any obscene computer data which is accessible to the public”.

The culture ministry said offenders faced up to five years in jail, but did not say how they would identify the culprits.

“When people take these ‘underboob selfies’ no one can see their faces,” ministry spokesman Anandha Chouchoti said. “So it’s like, we don’t know who these belong to, and it encourages others to do the same.:p:eek:
