Did he happen to mention anything about fuel hedging abuse?
If I was him, I'd start there and work down. Pilot sick leave "abuse" (is that even provable?) would be about #5,839 on my list of important stuff. |
First of all, no question is too dumb for the mentors, that's what they are there for. I think....you can fly WS trips after IOE, but no transoceanic until TOE. They WILL ensure you fly TOE, any trips that may impact it will be denied.
All of us were new here once, you will slowly learn the system, whether it's bu osmosis or scarring.... |

I would rather ask a dumb question anonymously here than confirm to my mentor and anyone else I am an idiot......
End of sims to IOE (for 7ER at least) is now nearly a month break. And then another 3 to 4 weeks waiting for TOE. I have been told to WS trips between IOE and TOE because even though I have a bid schedule for May, once IOE is done my schedule doesn't matter but I can WS. I have also heard not to WS because the could mess with my TOE scheduling. Lastly I have heard the training pay will stop when I finish IOE. So my questions 1) if there really is a month break between IOE and TOE does my reserve schedule already assigned just go away because I am not "qualified" to fly it, but I could WS and fly the same trips? 2) Would scheduling WS between IOE and TOE really mess with TOE scheduling or would they just canx the WS? (yes I am former military and do not yet have a full grasp of bidding if I got this wrong) 3) If there is a month break between IOE and TOE and training pay stops at IOE and I don't WS, I not getting paid for a month, right? I know this is a way jr question for this forum, but it is not new hire or poolie and doesn't deserve its own thread. |

I would be interested to know how many hours of sick leave go unused every year.

This is incorrect. I've flown with guys that openly admit to it... they are the vast minority, but it does happen.

There is NO sick leave abuse. Anyone that says there is, I ask them to prove it.
We're sure picking some pretty silly topics on APC, last few pages. I think an underboob reset would be welcome. |

THIS was shortly after we took a 42% pay cut! Yeah, that's 50%... of the 58% we were now being paid! NO, DPMA does NOT make up all the difference. DPMA works on a sliding scale, the longer you've been here, the less % of your pay you get if you go on LTD. A NEW HIRE gets 50% of new hire pay, but a 20-25 year guy, not so much. Not even close. I think I was getting about 22%. And what about all my unused hours of sick leave over the prior 25 years? All Gone, up in smoke. Just like my mortgage, my car, my Cub, and my boat. Yeah, it can happen when you have 4 kids in college and then you have "The Big One!" Worst part? It was due to an illness (viral meningitis) I contracted while on a layover in Kuwait City. OJI denied! FUPM! |
