"Dude"...I have been here 18+ years and only ONCE have I seen a captain yell at rampers so loudly that it could be heard by the pax (and it was truly inappropriate, etc).
Never once have I seen a captain making fun of pax to their face. While I have seen a couple of captains (appropriately) calling out FAs for poor performance, never once have I seen one "talk down" to them in an obnoxious, arrogant manner. It seems to me that perhaps you ought to look a little closer in the mirror and ask yourself if you are looking in all the wrong places for people with "issues" or if the issues are creations of your own imagination. |
In a year I've flown with one guy who yelled at rampers, berated gate agents & F/As, argued with ATC over runway assignments, and refused to start the second engine until exactly 2:00 before takeoff (on an 88) despite having a new FO struggling to get all the checklists done in that time. He's pretty much the only guy I've flown with who just failed at life, everyone else has been pretty fantastic (ok, there was the one 9/11 truther, but he was at least a nice guy).

In other news, Southwest wants to start another airfare war, and since the announcement, airline stocks have shed close to 10% on their stock prices.
Over the next decade, SWA is probably going to fade hard. |

I have never seen anyone making fun of pax, but on at least two occasions, one from JS and the other from the right seat, I have witnessed a captain basically screaming at the ramp guy.. The one from the JS was really, really embarrassing...

All I was trying to imply was that not everyone could cut it in the real world at this pay rate.

Damn straight! Those that realize this are the good ones and are fun to fly with. Those that don't realize this commit the faux pas mentioned earlier and get offended when someone suggests that airline pilots are nothing more than glorified bus drivers (complete with that hat!). It's a good, easy job, folks. Why make it harder than it has to be? Among other things, I have started a business. Hardest thing I have ever done. Incomparably harder than any aviation training I have ever been through. If you think I am crazy, I submit that you should be VERY thankful you have the pilot gig going for you.

In all seriousness, good to know I am not the only one who has witnessed this stuff. |
Just remember it's not always the Captain:eek:

What are doing? You are new. You need self reflection. It is obviously your fault. Every seasoned airline pilot could make the same money in corporate America. They are all incredibly professional, smart, and natural born leaders.
In all seriousness, good to know I am not the only one who has witnessed this stuff. |
