I did ask, she told me "we don't do that anymore because too many people have been abusing it". No idea what that means, but that's almost a direct quote. Not sure how I could possibly abuse a guaranteed ride to go fly a trip that DAL couldn't otherwise fill. Whatever, I'll be in 1st class anyway -- 5 open seats in the front, no upgrades, no HKs. Free breakfast is the only way to start a 2.5 hour block 21 hour pay GS. Only negative is I'll have to bus it over from JFK to LGA and then gamble that the DTW to SAT RJ doesn't get weight restricted on the way home.

You can always throw down with the big 3:
I've been drinking
I don't have child care
I am unable to commute

Usually I let them just go to voicemail but I had been actively checking open time and saw the GS against my name as the phone rang so I picked it up.

Hi Guys,
I have a Q about vacation, and monthly bidding. What is the default function of annual vacation? My understanding is that it's default is pay and NO CREDIT. Is that correct??? I can't find the setting in PBS to award vacation as pay AND credit. What am I missing. Thanks. Oh, BTW, I know bidding is closed, but I'll need to know for next time. Thanks again.

Chuck,
Yes, it's pay, no credit. That's why some guys will load up on extra flying during vacation months.

Chuck,

It's pay and credit for bidding. Vacation plus whatever adds up to alv+/-.
Pay no credit when schedules come out. Vacation pays but doesn't count against FARs.

Can you imagine the updraft of more pilots needed in all seats, if vacation were both pay AND credit??

You tell them you are more than willing to do it but you need to check the flights to commute in. If you can't get there, you can't get there... Earlier this year I got a call for and out of base GS in DTW. I said I'd be happy to do it but the timing was tight and I needed to check the flights. Scheduler said hold on, then asked if I could get to Seatac and make a flight in 1.5 hours. I said yes and she put me on PS.

As someone else said, there are ways to get out of it.

The results tab shows your premonth credit in real time. So to check if something is just pay or pay and credit, look there.

I had vacation in both SEP, and in OCT. Somehow, PBS, in the SEP monthly bid, awarded me two 6-day trips, during a month when I had 19.5 hrs of vacation. My two trips awarded added up to 73.8 hrs of credit, on top of my 19.5 hrs of vacation. I wanted to have my vacation awarded as pay AND credit, but it did not work out that way. I am hoping that the OCT awarded vacation will be doled out as credit, giving me a min. work month. I'm curious what my OCT award is going to look like. Looking at my SEP timecard, it shows vacations awarded as pay-no-credit.

PBS is hard programmed for vacation to be counted as pay and credit for bidding purposes. There is no option for anything else. The first step every month you bid is to check your PBS calendar and verify the values are correct. What did the PBS guys say when you complained? Your time card has nothing to do with PBS.
