The only problem is with their approach to marketing their effort, and making the group comfortable with their actions. Doing the right thing is fine, but it's not enough if you can't convincingly explain why it's the right thing.

After all, it is our job as members to watch the MEC in order to give them guidance, and ensure they're not falling too much in love with their ideas, or with their status as "insiders".

The problem as it stands now is that we have reasonably good communications after the fact when some agreement occurs (which enrages a number of us that don't feel they were sufficiently polled), but that these communications fall short in terms of providing a thorough background. When we try to fill in the blanks, i.e. via the forum, we run in a constant conflict between those who see evil in all things, and those within ALPA who are tired of having their motives questioned, but are not capable of assessing their own communication skills, and as a result end up dispensing sarcasm rather than clear answers.

+1
Again we need DALPA to do a PR campaign!

There is a app for that.....also a detailed discussion in the Computer section of DALPA...

Use two fingers to scroll down in the Nonrev listing window.

I'd say ridicule over sarcasm.

From the playbook:

RULE 1: "Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have."
RULE 2: "Never go outside the expertise of your people."
RULE 3: "Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy."
RULE 4: "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules."
RULE 5: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon."
RULE 6: "A good tactic is one your people enjoy."
RULE 7: "A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag."
RULE 8: "Keep the pressure on. Never let up."
RULE 9: "The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself."
RULE 10: "If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive."
RULE 11: "The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative." Never let the enemy score points because you're caught without a solution to the problem.
RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

Guess my fingers are stupid because I have tried everything. Oh well off to the DALPA forums.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Japan Airlines Corp. will receive up to $1.1 billion in emergency loans from the state-run Development Bank of Japan, the Associated Press reported Tuesday, citing an unnamed source. The news service said the Japanese transport ministry authorized the loans after it was evident the carrier would have to ground flights otherwise. JAL booked $1.5 billion in losses in the first half of the fiscal year, and faces interest-bearing debt totaling nearly $10 billion.

You're correct. It was 2001, around the time that the details of C2K came out. My Bad.

S.M's analysis was to cost out that contract with Delta's historical profitability and the current (well prior to 9/11) decreasing trends which indicated to him we were entering a recessionary period for airline operations.

Like I said, many variables did change, but his forecast was spot on. Maybe it was luck.

Is there an App for that?

I will be interesting to see how they structure this deal to keep from pulling us in the hole with them.

This must be the reason other expansionist airlines are NOT participating.

The only way I can see this working is if we get a good chunk of assets with some of the money, or at least rights to those assets, and then rights to routes and landing slots. If not it is way to risky to buy a 30% stake in a company that is failing.
