I went back and looked at all my time cards since the new PWA. I only bid reserve a little over 1/3 of those months and I exceeded guarantee only once, the rest weren't even close. In that month I did 4 SC and got credit for all 4 and the portion that exceeded guarantee was flying credit. I can say this has never affected me, but the principle of at least something for sitting short call could be subverted by a few hours for some and that just irritates me. I'm wondering how much this impacts the group as a whole. I doubt its much but this is just one of those things that is very minor but just angers me. Just when you think you have a good handle on the PWA 3 years into it, the internet slaps you in the face. Thanks for the awareness. What's the internet equivalent of kicking the dog?:(

Can you swap with the pot for next day flying after the 0700 PCS run? Check in greater than 12 hrs. Good reserve coverage. 3 day for another.
Contract says something about manual processing for next day, but I could be off in the weeds. Thanks. |

You can ask but they will probably say no. You can swap in the 7AM window.

Thanks. It popped up after the first run. I put a request in, but it went to a reserve. Next time I'll call and ask.

I talked with a contract wise pilot and the manual swap reference is for pilot to pilot swaps according to him. Looking at the contract that appears to be true. The reference to manually swapping a trip is in the swap board section and pertains to rotations less than two hours to report that have dropped off the swap board.

I'm sorry to hear the bad news, but glad that word is getting out before negotiations. In a month where one has a bunch of unused short calls, the likelihood of filing up is generally pretty low. Even removing the "unused" portion of the verbiage would be a small step in the right direction. Particularly for commuters, the act of positioning for the SC is the problem and whether used or not, should be compensated for. As an in-base reserve bidder, I'd likely request 6xSCs 9 months of the year if they paid above guarantee. That's a good number of unnecessary commutes I could soak up from pilots who live out of base. This obviously isn't a newbie-only problem since every category has folks at every seniority level who might be asking to sit SC if incentivized correctly.

I know it’s been covered, but how does one bid for an IVD? My sister is getting married next week, the 6th of October. I bid to get it off, including reserve and got coveraged/magenta’d into working that weekend. I’ve tried moving my off days around to get it off to no avail. Reserves avail/required is garbage in my catagory, which is surprising because 2-3 months ago we were really over staffed. I’ll have an APD available but would rather not lose pay if I can avoid it.
Does an IVD request need adequate coverage like a PD, or something like APD coverage, or something in between? Or none of the above? Thanks for any help. |

You put in the request via PCS leave requests. Can use 1-4 vacation days from an existing vacation in the current vacation year. I believe you need the same reserve coverage as the APD. I used it once and it worked well! Do bear in mind that you will lose some pay even if you cover each day of a trip since our vacation day is worth less than a full work day. I went negative bank to keep my month full. Have fun at the wedding!
