I've been told you can't have anything in the side pockets when you insert the bag into the storage space behind the CA's seat.

I've DH'ed quite a bit the last few years in 717ville -- never had an issue.
I've seen a very high number of FA's publicly try and shame pilots with 26" bags. They'll tell you to put it wheels first, and when you say it can't, they'll say just try it, and you'll say it can't, and they'll say just try it again, and you try it and it doesn't work. By then there's a dozen pax who were anxiously watching the situation and not only know you're a non compliant rule breaker but that your special bag is interferring in their overhead room.

We either need to board first (DH, especially in uniform) or we need an approved (and reliable) gate check sysyem for crew bags. That's possible and would only be a quick paperwork change in procedures. The current "people's" system of boarding doesn't benefit anyone now. Its way better to DH on an RJ than on a mainline the way it is now.

I really couldn't care less about public shaming.

I agree I would much rather DH on a 70-90 seater and pink tag.

Can't find anywhere in the FOM that prohibits us from DH'ing with a 26" bag. As far as FA's, have you seen what they bring back from Europe when they nonrev home?

Why shouldn’t reserves be used to cover flying throughout the system? No base “owns” any flying.

It improves QOL for the guy on reserve and if they can’t cover the trip in base, it goes to a GS in base.

So, are you proposing that the company not be allowed to use reserves to cover trips out of base? That seems like a huge change in industry standard practice.

I don't have a problem with the underlying practice, I would just like to see the experience improved... particularly when deadheads are involved. United's deadhead and crew meal language, applied to out of base reserve assignments, would go a long way toward making transcon DH less painful. We should be autobooked into a (good) seat the moment we are assigned or acknowledge, and be allowed to board with the crew.

If they do it should be for premium pay.

That is, in my opinion, completely absurd. By definition, reserves are there to maintain operational integrity anywhere in the system.

Are you even a Delta pilot? Why would you not want this for the pilot group?
I have bid reserve on purpose most of my Delta career. I know where improvements can be made.
If you keep everything in base, the company will need more pilots, more GS will go out and reserve guys/gals will not fly as much and not DH around the system.
Reserve should also get 1 hour of pay over the guarantee for every SC assigned.
You should also be allowed to move a golden day around in the month and keep that golden day.
Long call should go to 14 or 15 hours instead of 12 hours.
Sick if needed, like AA has.
