Even great jobs have clown shows.

Aa a fyi this came from a WAL Capt....who had bern through double digit pay cuts a pension loss and was making abt half what his DAL counterpart at the same company wz making.

This job always came with the sideshow...his point was i think it takes special effort to participate.

Probably the best advice I got from a Captain was when I was a FO new to the 767. At pushback time we were in DFW and you could see passengers who were waving at us and pointing. The agent would not go back up and get them. When the captain asked him to do so he got mad and said “while the airplane is at the gate it’s MY airplane.” Captain said ok. Agent pulled the jetway away. Captain opened his window and said to the agent in the jetway “Now it’s my airplane and it’s not moving until you get them on board.” He said it just as calm as he could be. No yelling or anything like the agent had done.

I asked him how he could keep his cool and not get angry. He said, and I quote, “Why get angry when you KNOW you’re going to win!” I have tried my darnedest to live by this..........but sometimes it’s very hard!

Heard a silly tidbit the other day that I find quite hard to believe...our 350s or tree-fiddys if you like, are not cat III approved? Any 350 folks actually in the know straighten this one out?

I’m not on the 350, but looking at the Airway Manual under CAT III Approach Requirements>Weather Minima where it shows each fleets limitations, the 350 reflects RVR 300 and a 100’ AH for CAT III. I believe that the person who told you this is completely full of it.

That might come in handy in SEA.

From an A350 about a month ago.... They can't do CAT II or III SEA until they get a certain number of practice CAT IIIs. I have no idea of the reasoning behind it.

The problem these days is an agent would just disappear and leave you sitting there hoping they put the pax on. I have told an agent to put passengers on.....only to have them close the entry door, pull back the jetway and refuse to come back.

I employ a different strategy. Before I ask for passengers I step into the jetway. And no matter what they say I tell them I will not get back on the plane until the passengers are on.

It's the uneven terrain for the 16 runways. Just have to log enough successful practice approaches to get signed off for regular cat III mins.
