No pay for E periods is a real bummer. I prefer them from the west coast. Now you work late and yay done by 1am and no pay. Big win for us /sarcasm

Briefs were never meant to be two students listening to a teacher. Remember flight instructing students that didn't come prepared? There is too much material to learn it all in a brief. I think this will make studying easier and give us more time to discuss the relevant parts of the sim lesson. I also don't think he was lying about throughput, he has always been a straight shooter. Time will tell.

I think during the two days of CQ they had the whole TEM umbrella slides AT LEAST 3 times in the pre/post brief stuff. Cutting that down would probably save 20 minutes per session right off the top...

West coast pilots only got paid extra for A and F periods didn't they? (4 hours)

If it’s IQ, you get 2:00 after 0100. 4:00 after 0300. Local time.
If it’s CQ, you get 2:00 after 0100. 4:00 after 0300. Base time.

11.F.7 and 13.

Sorry I thought you were talking about CQ. Must have been QUAL training you had.

What's interesting is the current periods end at 59. The new A starts at 0500 and the E ends at 0100. Contract says between 0100 and 0500 triggers premium pay. Are they interpreting that as 0101 and 0459?

If you’re done by 01:00:00, you aren’t working between 01:00:00 and 04:59:00.

This has zero to do with quality and 100% to do with throughput

What you are missing is that those E periods were already being fully used, by 200ish New Hires/month not protected by the PWA time limits. Now, instead of E’s always being FO/FO, they can pair up those two with the CA/CA pairing from the D period instead. There is no throughput gain, just smarter use of what we are already using.

Additionally, I was skeptical as well about the “self study”. However, every SLI I talked with loves the shorter brief. We all show up prepared anyway. The guy/gal who doesn’t is a rare unicorn - or so I’m told. So it’s happening anyways. Having said that, I still think we should get a quid from the company for it :p
