forgot to bid 12-11-2009 10:17 PM

The deal with Japan would replace a restrictive bilateral treaty stretching back to 1952. Under that post-World War II accord, Delta and United enjoy privileged positions in Japan among U.S. carriers, controlling 22% and 12% of passenger seats at Narita, respectively, according to data provider OAG. American has an 8% market share.

ANA is likely to apply quickly for antitrust approval to deepen ties with United and Continental by inking a joint venture allowing them to coordinate fares and schedules more closely.

That could accelerate decision making at JAL as it weighs competing offers from Delta and American, both of which are wooing the carrier with investment packages of more than $1 billion. JAL currently has a more modest code-sharing partnership with American.

The Japanese government is likely to have a big say in the matter. A state-backed turnaround body is leading the restructuring of JAL, which is burdened by more than 1 trillion yen ($11.21 billion) in net debt and pension obligations.

At the same time, U.S. antitrust authorities could delay any beefed-up alliances between giant and U.S. and Japanese carriers on competition concerns.

American is still awaiting word from the U.S. Transportation Department on whether it can proceed with its proposed trans-Atlantic joint venture with British Airways PLC and Spain's Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana SA. It was scheduled to rule by the end of October, but approval has been put on hold amid concerns by the Justice Department, according to people familiar with the matter.

Exactly!!! At least we as pilots have the option commute. Many DAL-N employees were told to either move to ATL or quit. Great options for them.

What's the quote I often read on this thread? To paraphrase: "They knew what they were getting into when they decided to take on the job."

I am still waiting on the good news that you mentioned was right around the corner months ago!! I'm glad we still all have a job. Maybe that's it. Not the best Christmas gift from the big D for Atlanta boys and girls. What did we do to get on the naughty list?

Pilots are so impatient. No furloughs, increased block hrs, pricing power returning. What happens as those things start happening? Good stuff. You have weathered the worst of the storm. If a base realignment is the worst thing we have to deal with count yourself lucky

Buzz, did the Mrs. agree to move East?

If DAL dropped their complaint to Open Skies to get this done, then we must have gotten something. Let's hope......

They did hint that there may be changes to the AE prior to close. My thought is that is why it was open longer.

If I'm awarded a reinstatement back to CVG on the -88, but I still can't hold the 73N anywhere in the system, do I lose my pay protection? Since I'm asking, if I'm awarded a vacancy on the -88 or -9 anywhere, do I lose my pay protection?

You will not lose your pay protection in this scenario. The only worry is how junior will the widebody seats in NYC go? IF they go junior, a lot of pilots will lose pay protection.

They can not change a AE after posting. They could cancel this AE and issue another however it would require the minimum 10 day posting time so would have to be done by around 21 Dec for a 1 Jan close.

Sounds to me like the NYC guys have it better...just cab over. That's off the charts in LA. I do, however, have a house you can buy which has been devalued by 35%. Its an hour from LAX, on a good day, and an hour and a half during rush hour. PM me if your interested.

The different airports out of NYC are not that bad. JFK and LGA are easy from Kew gardens with cheap cabs and buses available. Going to EWR from there is also not that bad. You don't go often and when you do you can take the long Island RR to Penn Station and then catch the EWR bus. Total cost about 18.00 dollars and takes about 2 hours. You are never under a obligation to get to EWR in 2 hours since you can measure your short call availability from the airport of your choice.

While this bid is primarily focused on increased utilization of our narrow body aircraft, it's important to keep in mind that this is our first shot out of the barrel, if you will, on a process that may take up to two years as we work with Network to realign where equipment needs to be based and the economy, specifically our revenue, change for the better.

What ACL was saying was that over the next two years you won't ever have to do a recurrent as you get signed off on every narrowbody aircraft in the fleet! I'm excited. I don't know which airplane I want to chose first. By the time we finish this journey we're all going to be more confused then Fathers Day in the ghetto.

Ugh... Beer. He taught me that one. He should get the infraction, not me.

I need to get better sources in the administration so I can have a press secretary. Fathers Day in the ghetto...that's funny!!

I’m on the 7ER in NYC. If I wanted to bid for 765 NYC I would place my bid on the AE preferences. Do I also need to place a bid to be VD to the 765 NYC?

If you would rather fly the 765 than the 7ER then yes. That would be the smart thing to do. I thought I read somewhere that VD's are processed before AE's, but not sure if since it's a new catagory that plays into it somehow....confusing for sure. Either way it sounds like you would be covering it all.
